*Warning!* While i'm fairly certain that there is no cursing by the NPC's on this game, there will probably be some from the other players. Play only if you are old enough to handle this!*/Warning!*

Anarchyonline.com

Its an amazing MMORPG, almost as good as World of Warcraft, and best of all, its FREE! This is the game that got me into MMORPGS. It is kind of complicated when you first start, so be sure to read the help files.

Oh, and, when you choose your side of the war, go Omni-Tek!

Omni-Tek is veiwed as the evil side of the war, and you get more money when you sell things. You live in a big city.

Nuetrals are.... nuetral in the war. they can go anywheres without being killed.(Unless they are flagged) No other bonuses for them. You live in a moderate sized city.

The Clan is like the rebels on star wars, veiwed as the good side. They get more XP from kills, and live in a city made mostly of clay(bah, thats the reason I hate them. Otherwise, all my characters would be clanners.)

One of the parts I like about the game, is you get your own apartment after you get off the starting island. You can put furniture and stuff in it.(Though I dont know where the furniture store is, I can never find it.)

Also, if it is your first time, you should probably choose either Martial Artist or Adventurer. They are the easiest to play(I prefer adventurers, they get to transform into animals at a high level.) After you get the hang of it, you can move on to cooler classes. My favorites are the Nanotechnician(Like a mage, nanotechnology is the magic of the future), adventurer, and the engineer(Because you can order your pet to kill for you, and go watch T.V. while you level up.) I also like the emotion dude(I cant come up with his name) The guy who summons up anger manifestations. The Agent is pretty cool, too.

Omni-Tek Forever!

however, if you do some reading you'll find out it soon won't be that way. Many places on the site tell you that sunscription fees kick in on January 15, 2007. I couldn't tell you why the devolopers thought this was a good idea, but I can guarantee that there will be massive outrage as the date draws near.

I'm 48% done downloading...

I read that they have a choice whether or not to keep it going at that point. Of course, that's a lot like saying it'll end at that point, since it's got to be incredibly expensive. I'm sure the whole theory is to rope people in and make them want to play so they'll switch to the pay version (required to play the expansions even now), like a really really big demo.

Anyway, for me it sounds pretty good, and just more good research! I'm pretty sure it will end on that date, but that'll have given me plenty of entertainment... if it's entertaining enough to actually play anywhere near that long. If only WoW would try this trick!

Runescape also has an F2P option. :) Sadly, the graphics are not that great... but... since it is written in Java, the graphics cant get much better. Probably the best Java game. :D

Did you download it yet, Jamul? If so, what server do you play on and what is your main toons name?

(I play on Rimor, and the toon I am working on now is Oresadan.)

Try reading the last journal entry.

Yeah, that hints at why I am not likely to return! I made GondolaBoy, I think on Rimor. Whichever server was listed first.

Ahh, I never check the journal entries. Sorry you dont like it. After you get over some of those things, it turns out to be a good game.

Oh, and, to exit you have to be sitting. (To sit, press the X button) And then it will tell you to wait 30 seconds(For some reason). After 30 seconds, you log off.

Yes, I discovered how to exit luckily, or I'd still be stuck in the game!

It's just brilliant interface design... no warning, no explanation. Clicking "Exit To Windows" literally does NOTHING!! How can that not be considered a bug!? Just a crazy notion off the top of my head: how about DON'T make the player sit down to exit?! Or how about they sit automatically? Or how about (though it's a rare MMO that's figured out this astonishingly deep concept) you just keep the character active for 30 seconds on the server, but let the person leave and go on about their life right away! It took me under 3 seconds to come up with those 3 solutions to this dilemma (and I'm leaving out the more watered down solutions like "print a message saying 'sorry, you have to sit down to exit'"). Anarchy Online has been out for what, 5 years now? There are probably people who started playing it the day it came out, and are still playing it, who really really want to quit, but they just don't know how. They had to buy new computers to run other programs.

It reminds me of one of the biggest frustrations we had when using AOL a long time ago. You'd try to log off and it'd say "okay, now we're going to download and install 5000 patches!". When I click on exit, it means NOW I want to not be using that program. Simple concept. And that horrible thing has been dragged into Windows recently too, with the updates that auto-install when you try to shut the computer down. I have a power strip (UPS) here that I want to shut off after I shut the computer down, but if it's updating, I get to sit and wait for those updates to finish before I can do that! Yay! I swear, they are actually making me the slave of the computer instead of it doing my bidding. It's a creepy road we are headed down.

^ I ranted!

I'm downloading it using the bittorrent file. It's at a little above 3% as of this writing. It certainly dosen't help that I can't surf the web and download at the same time, which I don't understand...I mean, I download at 4KBS and my connection speed is around 45 KBS. that still leaves about 40KBS to surf, does it not? It's a question that's always had me wondering: if I have 45 KBS, why isn't my computer USING it? mabye someone knows.
