For years I have played the original Spooky Castle which is now called Kid Mystic and have often wondered the difference. I have learnt the glitches and bugs of the original and only recently completed it again. I watched all the way to the end of the credits and noticed this site. I decided to check it out today and I was delighted to see an active community. I thought Spooky Castle was lost and forgotten about years ago. I had, prior to completing it this time round, searched for Spooky Castle on Google and found the game which is now called Spooky Castle. I thought someone was trying to copy it and didn't continue playing it.

But now I realise there is a new version of Spooky Castle called Kid Mystic, I must ask, what real differences are there? (I don't recognise any of the screenshots from the original Spooky Castle.)

And is there an update for the original Spooky castle which stops the following bug/glitches:

1. No monster attacks:
If you are running around and you wish to get somewhere unattacked, mainly because you cannot be bothered to fight back it is reletively simple; just before you get attacked by a monster in the overview world, save, then reload and it won't be there and you are free to continue moving.

2. Buy an item, lose money, regain that lost money instantly:
I got to chapter 2 and had some money so I decided to buy the Heart locket and lost $800. I then continued to adenture and I nearly got attacked by a Mushie, but I could not be bothered to attack so I used the previous glitch to save and load back again. I then realised that not only was the monster not there, I had regained all my money back and I still had the Heart Locket. I then tried this several times with other items and by Chapter 3 I had every item in the (original) game (Besides the Armageddon sword.)

3. Chapter 3 - The vault:
"On the left is wisdom, on the right wealth. Choose wisely, you can't have both." Oh yes you can via a simple proceduce. Once you reach the old man presenting the contents of each half of the vault, if you take a left to get the spell, then press escape and choose the "Give Up" option. You will have the spell once you are outside the vault and you are free to go back in, do it again and retrieve the large amount of cash inside the right half.

So,there you have it, years spent finding these rather important glitches. Is there a fix? Or do I have to go and buy the latest version. (I like the original 1; it is quite complete, and quant, to play an alteration would tint my childhood experiences forever.) - (Back when I was small, I used to play Spooky Castle so much that I even dreamed about it; I dreamt I was in Chapter 4 in the Armageddon Sword level, trying to avoid the large skull that was floating around.)

P.S. This post is just a good old recollection of my experiences in Spooky Caslte (Kid Mystic)

EDIT: P.S.S. Lol, I kinda didn't notice my title was a big fat typo.

Well, the new Kid Mystic has new levels, new enemies, new bosses, new items, 2 new play modes and hidden fairies which can help you once you find them.
About the glitches you mentioned: I don't see why you would need a fix for those, as nobody forces you to abuse those bugs. But they're all fixed in the new Kid Mystic anyway afaik. There won't be any patches or anything for Spooky Castle: The Adventures of Kid Mystic (which was published by eGames) anymore as it more or less got replaced by the Kid Mystic published by Hamumu.

I don't think there's any fix for #1, but does there really need to be? If you want to avoid a fight that badly, go ahead.

You should play the demo of the new version. You'll see how it's changed a lot! But you won't see the most interesting changes. Two new game modes for when you finish regular. Challenge mode in particular is really fun and a different challenge. Madcap is just the regular game, only you continue with all your items and levels and spells, but it's WAY harder. So much harder that you have no chance at all unless you buy Madcap Crystals to boost your power. It's like another way of leveling up further.

I have played the Demo, and was quite amazed (just a little disapointed that it ended after the first world - but its expected, its a demo.)

Playing the demo deeply encouraged me to buy the new Spooky Castle (it will always be Spooky Castle in my memory) but, as I am poor and still living off my parents, I cannot buy it.

But I do want to, greatly, it looks really good.

Infact, just so you all know, the new Spooky Castle (Kid Mystic), inspired me to create my own RPG with similar game play (but in full 3D with shadows etc.)

Don't worry Hamumu software, I'm not here to copy you, I am here to worship this amazing game. So much, that I decided to make my own, with Spooky Castle as inspiration.

You better check out Loonyland 1 and 2 as well for more inspiration then...

Ah, Kid Mystic/Spooky Castle was the first Hamumu game I played. ;) (Although I only found out about Hamumu when I found the old version of the Spooky Castle game starring Bouapha.)

And check out Doctor Lunatic, Supreme with Cheese, also. ;) It's like Kid Mystic, minus the spells, but with a ton more levels and enemies, and it has an editor. :D

So, jamul, does boss mean, you own Hamumu software?

If you do, I must ask; Do you have any abjection to myself creating a game similar (not too similar) to that of your own? (Remembering of course that I'm not really copying anything, just recreating another adventure in a similar way.)

For the benefit of my Spooky Castle-like game, I must ask;

How was the music for Spooky Castle made?

It has long been of great difficulty to get music in my projects mainly because we don't have the correct tools to make that music.

Neither do I - Brent Christian made the music for that game, among others!

A word of warning for anyone still in posetion of the original 1999 Spooky Castle. Recent studies have indicated that the executable installed from its installer; kidmystic.exe is indeed an agent for a trojan virus.

Beats me how so, but when my computer decided it didn't want to work this morning without giving me an error report window for every program, I ran an Ad - Aware Personal SE scan and an AVG virus scan.

The AVG virus scan pointed out the files that were actually causing my problem and the kidmystic.exe file as being an "Agent for a trojan".

So there you have it. Not much use now, as no one plays the original. But this post is here just so you all know.

I am quite sure it's NOT a trojan. In fact super duper sure (unless you got it from some illicit site rather than buying it from eGames). However, one of those old versions has some adware stuff in it, which could very well trip up things like this. Not to mention not being too pleasant anyway.

I support your view, Jamul. And no, Spooky Castle 1999 was not a trojan. Just the adaware on that version is a trojan agent; meaning it could help a trojan in but isn't going to do anything on its own.

And I did buy Spooky Castle from the shelf, with a box and a CD.
