Feel free to say anything that I've missed, or that you think should be up here. If we agree it makes sense, then I'll add it to the list! Oh, and please do not discuss the current game. That is all.
TIPS FOR THE MAFIA
I see this happen all the time from mafia members, but it is a definite no-no on for a mafia: Overly defending your buddies. If you die, the people you protect will become highly suspicious. Having said this, you shouldn't post huge, ten-mile, very convincing never-before-seen evidence against one of your buddies, but don't go tobig lengths defending them.
Okay, this was a mistake I made when I was a mafia in Game #18: Don't act too sure about things. For example, in that game there was speculation over why Dave Hettel was acting so strangely and random-voting people. Hammered proposed that that person could either be a) Mind Controlled b) Vote Controlled, or c) Faking it. I was a mafia, and coincidentally, the Mind Controller. I knew that Dave Hettel was town, so he couldn't be faking it and I knew for a fact that I didn't mind-control anyone that day. Therefore, I knew he was Vote Controlled, and then acted all sure about it. Bad mistake. It forced me to role-claim the wackiest role-claim in the history of Mafia. And subsequently got me lynched.
Try to imitate your the style you would have as a townie. This can be difficult, if you're usually a very logical thinker, Hammered is a great example of this: It's extremely easy to tell when she's mafia. For me, my townie style is quite relaxed. So if I were a mafia, I would imitate that.
Try to avoid chat conversation. If someone brings up the topic of the current mafia game, then just say that no chat talk is allowed. Why? Because it's difficult to speak on the spot. Because the chat is a lot more real-time than the forum, you don't have much time for acting. A great example of this is Mafia Game #12, where Ducklegion pretty much gave himself away on the chat. And, surely enough, he was mafia.
If you are the Godfather (though you can remind the Godfather this, if you aren't), then don't target people that would prove somebody else good or bad. There are definitely a lot of games where if somebody is good, then the other is most certainly proven good. And there are some games where if one person is good, then the other is almost certainly evil, so killing them would expose one of your own. If someone is 100% townie, then kill them. Because it doesn't narrow down the list of suspects.
Don't take it out on your team! This happened in Game #12, where Atkins voted ducklegion, the mafia godfather. Then ducklegion told everyone that Atkins was mafia on the chat (which is always screened by Coolguy, for some reason). You still win if your buddies win! Also, if your mafia buddy does in fact do this to you, just say that they're framing you.TIPS FOR THE TOWNIES
It's been said many a time... Don't lurk! For two reasons: 1) We want to hear your thoughts and opinions! 2) It's difficult to decide of someone's mafia-ness if they aren't talking. The odds are, that if you participate in the discussion with your true and honest beliefs, people are going to realise that you are a townie. For example: There's 3 players that everybody was unsure about. They hadn't role-claimed or been proven innocent. Two were townies and one was mafia. Two of those people were speaking up and discussing all game and one was lurking and only posting to hop on bandwagons. The chances are that the person lurking is a mafia. I know a lot of people's excuses are that they are really busy with something. If it's something that just pops out of the blue and will make you unavailable for most of the mafia game, then get a replacement. If you know you have something planned that's going to interfere, then just don't sign up! Well, you can for the replacements.
Read every post! Don't skim through, especially if there's an argument going on. Sometimes the mafia activity is in the details. I'm pretty sure this is what a lot of bandwagoners do.
Don't reveal your power role unless it would expose someone else, because then the mafia know that you're a power player, and they'll kill you. Unless you're a bulletproof townie. You can role-claim that anyday! :p The odd one out to this rule is the cop. If you're the cop, don't reveal yourself unless you've either found a mafia, or we're bandwagoning on a known townie to you. Once you have claimed that you're a cop, ask the doctor to protect you.
If you're a vigilante or a killing power of some kind, don't just randomly attack someone on night 1! Only attack if you're pretty sure.
If it is close the the end of the game, and there are 2 mafia or so left, then unless you are realy sure somebody is mafia, don't vote them! Because then the remaining mafia (and perhaps a mislead townie) can just bandwagon on. It's called 'speedy-lynching'.Well, that's all I can think of! Feel free to add any ideas!
