Hello, heres a puzzler for you all! I am trying to play Spooky Castle, the eGames version. When I try to play it, the screen goes blank as if its about to load, then the window pops up saying egames.exe had to be stopped and about sending the error report etc. I emailed their support and they told me to reduce by process count from 52 to around 30-40 because a process may be clashing with it. I reduced the count to 28 but still no difference. I have tried disabling bit defender but still nothing. Any ideas? I really want to play the original! Without kid mystic its just not the same :| Thanks.

What you need to do is bypass the egames launcher (which is not the most functional piece of software). Search the Program Files folder for Kid Mystic. There should be 2 different folders that make sense - Spooky Castle, eGames\Spooky Castle, Kid Mystic, something. One of them is the eGames launcher, and the other is the actual game. If you can find the one that is the game, you can run it directly by double clicking the EXE file. When you get that right, you can right-drag (right click and hold) that exe file onto your desktop and let go, then choose "Create a shortcut" to get yourself a shortcut to run it from in the future.
But with regard to "Without kid mystic its just not the same", I hope you realize that Spooky Castle (the free game we offer) is the actual Spooky Castle. The game they call Spooky Castle is what we sell as Kid Mystic, and it of course does feature Kid Mystic, and has lots of major enhancements over the eGames version. There's a demo you should check out to see the differences. It just sounded like you were referring to the Kid Mystic game as 'the original' and Spooky Castle (with Bouapha) as the not-original, so I wanted to be sure you knew we had an enhanced Kid Mystic here!

Oooo I thought something was different. I tried running both the exe files many times but still no joy. Thanks for your advice so far

Make sure you find both folders, not just two EXE files in the same folder. I think the actual game's executable is called "sylabulus.exe". It might be "kidmystic.exe" or "mystic.exe", though.

What you need to do is bypass the egames launcher
I remember discovering how to do that with Speedy Eggbert and Crazy Drake several years ago. Yea, for some reason, on some computers (even ones that meet the system requirements), an error message would come up instead of the launcher, and would make me extremely sad.

Hi, I can only find one folder, that is C/prog. files/egames.spooky castle
In the egames folder there is gbrowser.exe, and egames.exe
I will do a search for the file names you gave me last time and come back to you with those.
Thanks for your patience!

I think it's gbrowser.exe that you want to bypass. Try egames.exe (though I'm guessing you already have.)

No, it is in a separate folder, I really wasn't kidding.

I did a search for those three files, nowt came up apart from sylabulus which is a graphics file. I have added the install log in a few posts, and I can't see a separate folder, only the program files one. I have tried running egames.exe aswell, and yes, I will just buy the bloody thing if i have to!

I think the file you want is C:\Program Files\eGames\Spooky Castle\Game\egames.exe

Tried that 1000 times :P Thanks anyway

Yep, it looks like it. In the one I have, they hadn't renamed it like that. If that is crashing when you run it directly by double clicking, then you probably need to reinstall directX (or maybe just reinstall the game!).

I have tried reinstalling both already

I'm afraid I don't know anything more about it... eGames support is who you need to ask, and it sounds like they gave you a pretty useless tip already.
Try our Kid Mystic demo and see if that runs - that would certainly tell you if it's an overall issue or something to do with that specifically. Then, when ours does work perfectly... buy it! :)

The demo works perfect, now just need to wait till i get paid :P Thanks for your help
Ooo hang on, is the limitation on the demo only the lack of levels? If so I can copy the dlw files over?
Jamul
02-21-2008, 10:11 AM
No, that won't work at all. The game has MANY new features, which won't be available in the old maps, and the demo will cut you off before entering chapter 2, regardless of whether you have a chapter 2 map or not.

What are some of the differences?

What are some of the differences?
Between eGames Kid Mystic (a.k.a. the Spooky Castle version) and the remake? Well, the eGames version has less levels, less monsters (in fact, Blocko the Great is missing from the eGames version, as is his entire level and every monster type in it), less buyable items, no special modes, passed levels can't be reentered, there are no fancy looking water and lighting effects (i.e. it's based on the technology used in the original Dr. Lunatic and Spooky Castle: Bouapha) and I don't think there are Fairies either. Oh, and Chapter 1 has a Mama Spider as the boss (instead of Optimum Octon) and the Chapter 2 boss is Mush the Shroom (named King Mushroom in that game) instead of the Billy Goats Gruff. That's all I can think of right now...

And you can get the Hamumu-sold version for the Mac, if you so wish.

It's a pity none of the Hamumu games are platform-independent, though. Has anyone managed to run Kid Mystic on Linux yet?
