I have to say this every time someone gets banned...

Banning isn't a magical surprise that drops down from the sky on unsuspecting victims. There is a very clear list of rules in the General Blabber forum. But beyond that, before people get banned for violating those rules, they get lots of advance warning. And before that, I put up with a ton of violating of rules. Every single day, I edit out profanity and rudeness from 10 or more posts, and do not even notify the posters that they've broken any rules. I just let it go. Only people who are way over the line, breaking rules repeatedly and extremely, ever get even a first warning. And then only when they continue to be horrible and get three warnings do they actually get banned.

So don't run around in terror fearing a ban dropping on your head. Spamming garbage (in Total Mayhem) isn't against the rules, being generally annoying isn't against the rules. The rules are clearly stated, you can read them if you have any fear. But you shouldn't have any fear - because if you are doing things wrong so extensively that I actually give you a warning, it's still just a warning. A ban will never surprise you if you know the rules!

... Now, with that said, Varkarrus did not get any warnings for this ban. Because if you'll look at the rules, I was actually very lenient by not instantly perma-banning him for what he did. Piracy is not tolerated. Don't even begin to go there. It's a crime, and it strikes directly at my ability to make games.

Bannings occur maybe 1 or 2 times a year, not counting of course the drive-by advertising spammers. Nobody is in any danger of being banned unless they know it.
I hear from people all the time who drop in "Please don't ban me!" in the middle of something they're saying to me, and I truly don't understand it. I hope there isn't this general fear of secret police lurking around every corner here. There's just no basis for it. The problem is that people make such a huge deal out of the extremely few bans that it seems like everybody is just inches away from me laughing maniacally and lashing out at them. It doesn't happen. I just don't ban people, almost ever. Look at this case - Varkarrus broke a rule that is supposed to be an instant permanent ban, and I actually ignored it completely, just erasing the offending link. Then he pushed it, and I gave him a temporary ban.

Believe me, we are really free-wheeling here! I crack down on the rules completely in the sense that I edit posts to make sure there isn't anything violating them - it's absolutely important to me that this site contain NO profanity or rudeness, so that everybody is safe and comfortable. But in terms of punishing people, it just doesn't happen unless you keep on pushing it over and over, ignoring repeated warnings.

Do not be afraid of being banned. Do not be afraid of someone else being banned. It just won't happen barring extreme insanity.

For how many time Varkarrus got banned,Jamul?And someone can get banned for having a sig too big?After a lot of times you warned that person?

If you get a warning that is an actual official warning (i.e. 1/3 of the way to a ban), you will be clearly informed of that. When I PM people to let them know their sig is too big, that is not an official warning. It's just letting you know about something you should change.
