A friend and I made this game for our Computer Science class at school. It was written in NetLogo. You can play it at www.blastobutter42.drivehq.com/mario.html (http://www.blastobutter42.drivehq.com/mario.html).

Jumping doesn't work in Opera as the applet doesn't seem to get the "focus" required to press buttons. Tried it in Internet Explorer and the jumping works, but it's really slow and bumpy and virtually unplayable in IE.

Firefox behaves the same as Opera.

Works OK for me, in Firefox. Though the control scheme is a bit awkward.
EDIT: oh, since changing tab and back, no more jumping. Hmph.

I tried reducing the game speed and using the on-screen button to jump (it's not possible to move forward or backward while jumping this way without reducing the game speed), and I got to level three. At one point of the level, lots of turtles suddenly appeared inside each other and the game began to run even slower than it already did, and then I fell through the floor and kept reappearing at the top of the screen and falling through the floor again until one of the turtles that were stuck inside each other hit me, and I died. :D

Yeah...it has some problems. It of course plays best if you open the original file in NetLogo, which you can download at http://ccl.northwestern.edu/netlogo/ if you really care enough, but it works fine in Firefox and IE7 for me if I close all other tabs.
If the buttons don't have focus, clicking in the area around the buttons should restore it.
