puzzle in puzzling caverns

What do you mean step on the dots exacly once, Jamul? I'v done it about 5 times and the gates won't open! How do you do it? can anyone help me understand this?:x

It's a classic type of puzzle. Stepping on a dot toggles that dot and all of its neighbors. Practice stepping on one repeatedly to understand exactly what you get. If you step on the same one twice, it (and its neighbors) end up exactly how they were before.

So to solve the puzzle, figure out what to step on to make every single one be lit up at the same time. Or, instead of solving it, step on each dot exactly one time, making sure you never step on the same one twice, because that solves it!

I also tried stepping on each one just once...but instead of the 4 corner lights being on befor you start they are off while everything else is on...??

I think somebody once posted that as the solution, and I just stuck it in the FAQ, and it's been a problem ever since, because, well, it's wrong! I think the posted solution works. However, you shouldn't use it. You should solve the puzzle!

It didn't work for me when I tried that, is it supposed to be in a certain order?

No, there is no way it could require an order, so if that doesn't do it, then I'm wrong. I haven't tried it. It's a very specific type of puzzle, see what the lights do when stepped on, and figure out how that makes it all light up. It seems like the answer there would work, but I haven't tried it.

P.S. I beat it before, but I'm doing it for the 2nd time in challenge mode.
