For the last couple of months, I've been really bothered by a problem. I want to go to Temple University Japan, but I don't have the money.

I'll be going to Northwest Community College for the first two years, because with my grades, if its not a free ride, it'll be really close to free. Even if I don't get a scholarship or anything, it's only 800 a semester. And I could probably guilt my dad into paying that. That leaves the cost of going to TUJ.

TUJ costs a lot of money, and because you have to pay in Yen, and the value of the dollar is going down, it might cost even more by the time I have to go. I'll probably have to pull out some loans to get through it, no matter how much I get paid. And I'm ready for that: Theres only one problem.

To go to TUJ, you need to prove that you can handle yourself in a foreign country if something should happen. You do that by proving you have access to (currently) 30,000 dollars. I have no relatives that are able or willing to put 30,000 dollars in the bank(My parents are revolted by the idea of me going to Japan), so I need 30,000 dollars in the bank in a little over 3 years. This is no easy task at 17. That is very nearly 1,000 dollars a month to do that.

So, for the last couple of months, I've been bugging the store owner for a promotion. He finally talked to me about it today(Or rather, yesterday. It's Tommorrow, today!)

He came up to me while I was cleaning a table.(I'm going to post our conversation, but with edits. I'm improving his grammar a lot, here. English is his second language, and while he's very good at it, his grammar is not perfect. Also, I'm paraphrasing. Meh.)

"How much do you need a month to go to college?"
"About 1,000 dollars a month"
"1,000? Thats big money!"
"Yeah, but I'll work all the shifts you want me to! You don't even have to count them, as long as I get 1,000 a month, I'll be happy. Work me every shift, if you want to."
He seemed a little pleased with this. He sighed and walked away.

Later, I talked to the head Hibachi chef about it. HHC(I'm not revealing names here!) said that the owner will probably accept my offer, but he will work me really hard. He will also probably tell HHC and HSC(Head Sushi Chef, both are basically my bosses) to go really hard on me.

So yay! I may have a way to go to college! If Store Owner doesn't take me up on the offer, I'll quit a month after turning 18(No Busboy at any resturant Store Owner has ever owned has ever been promoted, ever.) and get a higher paying jorb. It'll be a lot tougher getting the money, though, and I may have to work two jobs after I finish with school. I sure hope Store Owner says yes!

You may want to get slightly more money, for the large amount of coffee you will consume. :p

Ask if they would allow a Bed in the resturant, then you just have to learn how to use a knife when sleeping... 24 hour shifts!

I really would advise against 24-hour shifts. Or indeed using knives in your sleep. :p

But wow, things are looking up for you, then. :D
