that Futurama isn't as funny as I thought it was. I watched the first 3 episodes elsewhere, and I DID find those funny, but after buying the first two seasons, I've only laughed out loud a couple of times.
There are probably a few reasons for this. First, I saw Family Guy and the first 3 seasons of South Park (the only hilarious ones, imo) before this, so I think that may have "dulled" my hilarity sensors (so to speak), so now something has to extra funny to get a rise outta me. Second, I'm really not much of a science fiction fan, and I know from the commentary that Futurama is mainly a spoof of that genre. A lot of the jokes seem to spawn from the absurdities of various aliens and near-death experiences, not exactly something I can relate to since I haven't followed more "serious" works of sci-fi.
On the other hand, there were many times I chuckled, and the subtle romantic vibe between Fry and Leela was - how shall I put it - ?inspiring?. Groening and co. do a good job of poking fun at sci-fi, it just doesn't evoke any "real" emotion in me.
But of course, that's just me!

I really don't know why, but I feel things are funnier when I watch TV shows on TV, rather then when I watch them on DVD. Also, comparing Futurama to shows like Family Guy and South Park is like comparing the Niagara Falls to the Grand Canyons. Niagara Falls is nice and all but the Grand Canyons is just...something else. This is not to say Niagara Falls should never be visited because it's not as amazing as the Grand Canyons, rather, both should be visited and enjoyed, not because of how great it is, but because what is there. Futurama may not have evil babies or swearing 8 year olds, but it does have Dr. Zoidburg, and nobody can take that. ...Hope that made sense...

I've only seen a couple of episodes of Futurama. I found it amusing but hard to follow.

I thought Futurama was funny. I haven't seen much of South Park and I've never found Family Guy extremelyy funny, due to most of its humor just being about completely random stuff happening (except I liked the Peter vs Chicken fight! That was amusing.:p).

By the way, I liked Niagara Falls way more then the Grand Canyon!!! :p The canyon was a big dusty crack and I had to go on hikes with my family when we vacationed there.

I think it's more like comparing Niagara Falls to the Mariana Trench, but meh. Like I said, it's just imo.

My mom won't let me watch Family Guy (which is just so stupid that I don't even want to bother), The Simpsons, or South Park, even though some comments my friends make are just as, if not more, inappropriate than anything on those shows :???:.

Unless you're seeing the syndicated version of South Park (which was edited to get a TV-14 instead of a TV-MA), then yes, she's right to not allow you to watch it. In truth, the newer episodes aren't as funny and sometimes downright disgusting and gory (it looks much more realistic than the first few seasons). Family Guy really isn't appropriate for kids and tweens, either. I don't really know about The Simpsons, thought I'm guessing they really shouldn't be viewed by anyone 10 and younger.

That's not a particularly good thing, though.
It's a futurama referance.

Lil' Update!
Futurama stirred something in my soul. Meh.
And the commentary really made the purchase worth it. It's like 50% more laughes from that alone! Matt Groening, David X. Cohen, Chris Tyng, Billy West, Guy who does Bender and others, etc. - it was (mostly) cool to hear what they had to say and hear them goofing off. Jamul should get some of his friends to help out on the HPG commentary! XD (Or maybe ask Hamumuians who participated in the contests to send in their own commentary.)
One (maybe final) Question: in the first two seasons, Fry and Leela have almost kissed twice, but were interrupted by life-threatening situations? Does that occur in the next few seasons? [No storyline spoilers, please.]
