View Full Version : My life's work, taken from me... (R3?)

I recently stumbled upon a pretty trying truth: supersilver, a frequent poster on the Hamumu.com forums has been using my written work as a basis for his R3 story online.
I finished writing this story in early March of 2003, and had started it maybe 5 years prior to that. It did not have the name "R3" at that time, but a different one. I am afraid to give away the name as he may somehow use Google to find it, and take more of my story.
All I ask is that supersilver keeps this from Hamumu.com from now on. No more signature links, posts, story entries, etc. Frankly, I just don't like having this plaigerism rubbed in my face.
I don't mind if he advertises elsewhere, but not here. I simply won't stand for it.
I did mention that the story had the name "Space" in it, but I'm not sure I put much of it online anyway.
Thanks for reading.

Wow! My old Geocities site, hahahahhaha. Thankfully I didn't store much of the story there. I think my old Tripod or Angelfire website had the majority of the text stored there, but I just checked and they have been completely removed.
Perhaps that is where supersilver found it, though. Who knows when he got my story?

http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&rlz=1T4ADBF_en-GBGB291GB291&q=feathers+in+space&meta= lol! :D feathers in space doesnt exist! and it as nothing to do with feathers! it is about an organisation called resistance force three (R3 for short, why isnt it RF3? it's a VII tradition) who well, resist! you don't even know what the bad guy is! by the sounds of it, you've read the first little part of it, and taken on that! I have proof, you dont. google doesnt lie.

Maybe you should take a look at that file that Mr. Onion posted, supersilver.
It's part of the story, and was created in 2003. Yeah. Stings, doesn't it?

Sorry, supersilver, but... I kinda have to side with Chinook, as one of you clutters up TM with stuff you have to pay for and the other doesn't. Understand that I mean no offense, as you are, otherwise, a valuable member of this community. Though I wouldn't mind if you kept a link around in your signature.

oh, isnt it weird that that it ends at the most recent part I made? Let's face it, you took that, put it in a notepad file, called it feathers in space and claimed it as your own. i started it 8 (im 13 now) years ago. if anything, he's setaling from me. so, let's forget this lie that you made it ever happened, ok?
Let's face it, i have proof, you dont. and your site thing isnt even open! you just put it up there today.

Thanks, Sillyman. See? This is the kind of recognition I desire. I don't necessarily need to get rich off of my work, but I'd really rather that I didn't have it flaunted in front of me on my favorite forum.
If supersilver just keeps "his" story to his website, and to other forums, we can leave it at that.

A clear desperate attempt at trying to get me to reveal the next part of the story. So he can either:
a.) Take it and add it to his story. Perhaps he didn't actually get the full text when he originally stole it.
b.) Change his story subtly and say "See?! I didn't steal chinook's life work!"
I will give you no such satisfaction.

Was that one of those memories that stuck with you? I can vaguely remember getting stung by bees when I was 5 or so, and I remember the atrocities of first grade when I was 7, but 4? Nothing...
Shoot! Off-topic...
But yeah, Supersilver needs to think long and hard about what he's going to do, else he and his parents are going to face deep crud, it seems...

just a note to both of you. i'm not going to pick a side here, but i will give you some professional advice. unless your work has been copyrighted, do not post it on the internet. as a writer myself, i know the excitment you get from sharing your stories with readers; it's a great feeling. but to keep your work safe, you need to take the necessary steps to protect it, otherwise situations like this happen.
so until your work has been copyrighted, only share your work with a select trusted few while you go through the editing process.

Copyright applies automatically to the text whenever it gets written.
Alot of people think that. It actually isn't true. Another misconception is mailing it to yourself. I don't know where these rumors start, but any copyright office will tell you they aren't true. You get copyright verification which can be used in court to prove something is yours.

In all countries where the Berne Convention standards apply, copyright is automatic, and need not be obtained through official registration with any government office.
The Berne Convention covers all of the US, all of continental Europe, and most of the rest of the world.

I read the article, and I guess you are right. Although, I don't know how these two are going to legitamitely prove who owns the work. I guess that's for them to figure out.
I'm officially changing my advice to: A registered copyright would save a lot of headaches and eliminate a lot of questions about authorship.
Thank you Mr. Onion for the info. I stand corrected.

Hello.
My little brother A.K.A Legomash has been on this (I haven't dabbled here before but now that this has occured I doubt i'll be back) site for quite some time and as has his friend.
My brother's friend in question is a boy I have known since he has been fairly young and although creative in many areas with quite an extrodinary imagination (quite like to my eccentric brother) is very hardworking and puts a lot of work into things. This boy is most certainly not chipnook (or whatever his name is) and the boy who is my brothers friend- well, he came up with the idea in the first place, and I havent bothered to find his username (I literally pushed my brother off the computer after finding out about this). (EDIT: his name is Supersilver)
Supersilver has been quite happily and gulliably talking about his works since primary school... and you can be sure it is something you can't quite forget. For the fact he is very similar to my brother I feel a need to push through this lot and put things straight. Call it domineering, I call it honesty and truth.
Right. Chipnook.
First off- I don't know your reasons for this but it isn't terribly nice or fair. Childish antics, as so sported, are only fairly done if you are under eight years old. I have a feeling you're slightly older.
Yes, I am accusing you of stealing work. I feel so strongly about the matter I have taken it upon myself to post Supersilver's ideas on several sites which copyright the work. He is given full credit even although it is under my own name.
Someone's life work is a very private personal matter. Perhaps he was a bit niave but Chipnook (whatever your name is) I resent the fact you are taking advantage of that. What you are doing is wrong and absurd. On family sites such as this one you shouldn't be allowed to get away with this.
Your methods with your 'facts' are terribly easy to do. The time stamp on that text document could have been as simple as you changing the global time on your computer. I don't understand why many of you haven't questioned this- I haven't actually read over this topic as i'm too furious to stop typing.
And before you have a go at my brother for having his elder sister stick up for him and Supersilver-I pushed my brother off this computer on my own accord. I don't care if he gives excuses- I am not sorry for writing any of this (which has been politer than I would have liked to have put it). I am an extremely stubborn, grudgeful person- especially when fulled with anger- so I would be only too happy to continue ranting and raging for months to come.
I must ask that if this post displeases anyone that it is taken upon me and not my brothers account- as i'd never hear the end of it.
I'll leave further details or PM individuals on this account (or perhaps create my own account) if this doesn't sort itself out soon.
Stealing work is no laughing matter. We have either experienced it or perhaps in the future may experience it. It is very damaging and emotionally upsetting. Our ideas and principles are our babies- if someone lashes out we feel the pain.

Jokes are meant to be, I believe, and this wasn't funny. I mean, talking about something like this is the chat may not be too bad, but bringing it into several threads on the forum was a bit OTT. In fact, I'm surprised further action hasn't been taken.

Sheesh! I guess you guys chose the "wayyyy too serious" option!
None of this stuff was posted outside of TM or in chat. TM is sort of an anything goes, and it was definitely silly at every turn:
I said I had already assembled a team of lawyers (within 20 minutes).
I said the original name was "Feathers in Space". (Honestly, you guys are insanely serious!)
I claimed to have written the text of R3 as a 22 year old, five years ago. (!!!)
I talked about how I was shopping a screenplay around to major networks for a mini-series. (Yep.)
So no, it wasn't mean. It was absurd, and a few people got it. The rest either believed it, which I find outrageous, or are getting all huffy about it, which is frankly shocking.
Go get some fresh air, people.

As for Mr Onion. Whilst I was typing I was unsure about my bro's friend's name so I mentioned that throughout the post, I then went over the post and put in his name when I found it out. So I basically re-wrote the whole thing and didn't even bother to take the hand typed 'edit' bit out. Eh, might be a bit of a mouthful there to understand but I don't quite see how anything like that could make an effect anyway. So I don't know whether you are joking or anything :/ or whether you are imposing its chinook's (sorry... not chipnook) work.
Anway, I didn't realise the situation and for that i'm sorry, hope it doesn't continue and- i'll just leave Hamumu to you guys.
er bye ^,^;;

Not sure if you'll read this, but perhaps you should have read the rest of the topic; nobody stole anything from anyone, chinook was just trying to make a joke here - he's not actually trying to claim that supersilver's story is his work, he was just kidding. The dates are obviously faked, and most people here are and have been well aware of this even before your post, and I'd say it would be all settled if people would stop poking the dead body of chinook's (admittedly not very funny) joke.
yeah, but people STILL do it, they still say he's the writer, even after the post. I thank ecardina for spreading the word on my work, but it says file not found... and did you say the site? it's resistanceforcethree.wordpress.com.
legomash, if it's not a bother, could you pass this message on?
thank you thank you thank you!

I must say, the particular subject of the joke might not of been the smartest, by seeing as NO ONE could possibly have any knowledge of this beforehand, nor be able to predict it, I suppose we should all drop it. Anyways, I for one could appreciate the actual joking part of Chinooks posts, and found it mildly funny. but thats just me.

Ok, this time its me for real. Sorry my sister was a bit rash there, I mentioned that someone may be stealing supersilver's work and my sister shoved me off before I could say that I hadn't fully read the post. Then she shouted at me every time I opened my mouth (she's like that when she's angry) and I was ordered to leave the room. Also, I didn't notice anything bout lawyers or screenplays, and I had no idea of your age, so it seemed like you might actualy be trying to steal it. Also, Supersilver phoned me up last night that someone was trying to steal his work, but I was busy. So I thought Id check it out. Sorry for all the fuss, and even though the topic was aimed at Supersilver, He's a fellow member of TSCT, so I had to help out. I managed to get my sis to remove copyright details. She was realy quite embaressed when she actualy read the rest of this thread. But anyone who is rude to my sis has my disrespect, although I will not hold a permanent grudge to them unless they carried on the same kind of atitude.
