Anyone here in any advanced classes? I'm not. I like to keep things easy so then I can have more time to do other stuff(read, write, stuff) I'm advanced in math, which is the subject I hate most. You HAVE to learn math because like every single job in the world uses math. I'm in 6th grade math, grade math. My teacher wants to put me 7th but I refuse. I'm in 7th grade Social Studies, which I find quite easy. This one kid in my grade is doing 9th grade algebra, and this other boy in the grade doing 9th grade geometry. I bet he gets better grades than my brother... -_-

I don't think a 6th grader would be doing quadratic functions...

what are quadratic functions? Sounds complicated. Plus I'm not really left brain smart. I'm more right brain smart.:D

Quadratic functions are part of 9th grade maths (At least, in my country anyway). They involve plotting graphs of y=x².

I wouldn't know. I still have four years. Good to know I guess. My brother said he knew what it was. Looks quite confusing.

*Starts laughing hysterically* Advanced classes... No... No no. No no no no. I'm just getting by in normal classes. I'm currently doing 10th grade (My grade level) classes. I've never been a smart person. I'm more of a... Uh... ... Something else person. I'll think of it eventually. I do seem to have talent in writing, however.

P.S. I'm also really bad at doing math. At least this is my second last year of taking it. Yay.

well I'm in 8th grade and according to my maps scores (a computerized self adjusting test) I should be doing 10th-11th grade math. unfortunately My school doesn't offer the class. Also I went into Kindergarden when I was 6 so I should be a freshman.

I love math! I am in the 7th grade and I read the book of the 9th because I am bored. I wish in Greece we could skip grades like that:(

Even though I hate maths I am pretty good at it. I usually top my class

That's all? It's pretty simple... Unless you give me a better example.

At which points does 4x² + 12x + 9 cross the x axis?

Julian
01-11-2009, 08:18 AM
Still rather simple, but it would probably take while.

EDIT: Whoops, misread that. NOW it seems harder, but it also seems like you missed saying something.

Mr.Onion
01-11-2009, 08:22 AM
No, I added a word. I also worded the question incorrectly.

Julian
01-11-2009, 08:26 AM
Ok, it does seem harder, but if I knew what the cross the x axis meant, I'd be able to figure it out.

Mr.Onion
01-11-2009, 08:31 AM
If you were to draw that equation on a graph, it would touch the horizontal axis.

If you were above grade level slightly would you have to take the grade above subject What if you're not that advanced. Like you get straight A's in grade subject(I get straight A's in every subject) Then you go to the other grade level and you like start failing. Like get D's ad lower or something. My point is that I'm slightly above grade level but not like really advanced, not advanced enough to get goof grades in above grade level subject. (unless Social Studies) And if you stay in your grade level subject, it makes you look smarter. :D Like my GPA is 3.9

I'm at least a grade in math... I was taking honors geometry back in 8th grade.

And Mr. Onion, I'm pretty sure quadratic formulas started in sixth or seventh grade around here.

It was taught in the equivalent of 9th grade over here. :p

I'm in 8th grade right now, and am in GT Math and Science and Pre-AP American History and Language Arts. I think Math is really fun. We just took our test on solving systems of equations/inequalities and this week we're going to take our semester test.

Mr.Onion, assuming your formula is y=4x² + 12x + 9, its zero is at x=-1.5.

Wow. People actually like math. I don't. I'm on the honor roll though. And also I'm one of the best cello players in my grade. Technically, I'm the only one in the cello section that plays. These other two just joke around.

wow. We cant take a language until next year. Our choices are limited to Spanish and French. But I'm taking German for a club.

My friend Dalton is in 7th grade and he's so smart that the teachers want him to be in 9th grade. He gets straight A's and has never got a C or below in his life. I'm in 7th grade and I get A's, B's and sometimes C's.

Stupid math questions
I just had my mathematics mid-term today and it went terrible
NOOOOOOOOOOO!
My father's going to kill me if I don't get an A

I'm in the second (last) year of A-Level maths. It's a big shock going to it, as it's a bunch of crazy stuff that we hadn't come across before. Mostly integration and differentiation, which like everything after a certain point are related to graphs.

I've got an exam on it on Thursday. Lovely.

Matrix addition isn't that hard, Grim3vil. It's matrix multiplication that's really evil. >: D

I think the worst math I've ever had is the section I'm currently in. Integrals are the fifth horseman of the apocalypse!

Multiplication is vexation;
Division is as bad;
The Rule of Three doth puzzle me,
And Practice drives me mad.

Actually I'm not bad at math myself. I once got 100% in a college statistics class. And as a bonus the professor was quite a pretty woman.

Math is AWESOME!!! I'm in 10th grade and I do pre-calculus. I love it insanely. Everyone should love math.

I object to loving math! I HATE it! I only do math if I'm forced to. Like homework. But sadly, I have to do extra credit. *sigh* I don't wanna do math! WWAHHHH! NNOOO!!!

As a mathematician myself, I often find that it's not the math that people hate so much as how it's presented. A lot of teachers teach the most basic parts as if they are the entirety of the subject, leaving students with the idea that all of math is boring. The bookkeeping parts are certainly dull, but there's a lot more beyond that which makes it quite interesting.

And more on topic, I'm in AP Computer Science and BC Calculus.

You won't love it next year!!! Well, maybe at first, until the Integralpocalypse hits. :p

I'm also in AP Computer Science right now... I've found it very easy so far, although I've heard that in second semester it gets insane.

Well done, CheeseLord, you took the words right out of my mouth. Unfortunately about the time math was starting to get interesting was when I had to stop taking it to concentrate on getting a degree in English. But my Dad has had a life-long interest in math and he occasionally shows me cool things.

Well, im in all advanced classes, and next year, im taking the 10 and 11th grade science classes, and next year, im also taking a AP social studies class, which will give me a collage credit!

Today I gave my mid-term exam for english. I had to write so much that I nearly broke my finger although there is still a sort of depression on my finger

I like writing. It's fun When we did the WKCE test, that we had to write a lot, but it wasn't free writing sadly. We had to write about a topic chosen by you're teacher. I did like the part that we didn't have to go to math though. But sadly we didn't have science.
