Yesterday a couple of kids at school (including me) were playing a game and the person who lost the game would have to accomplish a certain task that the majority of the players assigned....
Now unfortunately I was the one who lost and the winners dared me to jump off the second story corridor in our school, I didn't accept at first but all the taunting and teasing drove me up the wall and I was not about to ruin my reputation so I went up to the corridor, closed my eyes and hoped for the best...........
well you probably know what happened after that but surprisingly I didn't sustain much injury. All I got was a half-fractured ankle. So I just wanted to point out that.............DARE'S ARE EVIL

I feel you man. Every lunch my "friends" Ryan and Chris ( truth be told I hate them both very deeply, but they always come to the table that I sit at with my real friends Eddie and Stevie Rose) Anyways, they always make me play Truth or Dare with them, and lets be honest, they would call it as landing on me if it was like 40 degrees away from pointing at me. And now it's especially bad because now they know that I have a huge crush on Kellie so they won't leave me alone about that. And though they call me a nerd and they do badly who'll be laughing when I've got a good career and Ryan can't find one because he's failing math? So don't let jerks like Ryan get you down or force you to do something, because I for one am getting really sick of people like Ryan giving smart people like us loads of crap!!!:x

Woah! Looks like you got it harder than I did! But I did fell miserable when each and every person of my class was laughing at me when I was lying on the ground flat, including my best friends, Dan, Mat and David(whom I don't hate). And its true that jerks give smart kids a hard time. I was voted most despised student in my class [I always hated the teacher who held that poll] and I think it was apparently because I'm way smarter than the other kids in my class

Well, I guess the moral of the story is to not give in to peer pressure so easily. I mean, if these people were your friends, then they shouldn't have dared you to do something that put you at risk... and you most certainly shouldn't have accepted. Would being rational really damage your 'reputation'?
If the worst comes to the worst, don't partake in such games at all. Really, it's gambling, and so is only a good idea when you're playing with people you trust; people that wouldn't want to hurt you.

Okay, who the heck holds that kind of a poll?!:x

I guess this is definitely one of the benefits of being an adult. People don't ask you to play stupid games like that anymore. At least, the adults I know don't.

ok... let me get this straight... you jumped off a building because of a dare, fractured your ankle, and then the kids just stood there, and laughed?!

man, I hate that. they would all be standing in a circle, just staring (laughing maybe) at you while your in pain (I used to fall all the time in the 1st and 2nd grade.)

as for the vote, that is spooky. you'd have to be nuts to be a teacher and hold a vote like that.

hm... I had something else to say, but I forgot.

Yup! That all is true, and I told you the teacher who held that poll seems pretty darn mad to me, he's hated me for I don't know what reason, but I really didn't care much because my friend Mat got voted 2nd most hated person in the class and both of us laughed it off.
The thing that would have my rep damaged is that I never ever said no to a dare and I'm always the leader in shenanigans and it would have damaged my rep because people will start calling me a nerd, dork etc, you get the picture and I hate that. So it was basically peer pressure and all the taunts that caused me to do that.
Moreover I didn't fracture my ankle completely.

Even a partial ankle fracture is no laughing matter.

I think nerds should be proud of their nerddom. I know I am.

There is a difference between being 'cool' and being, well, irrational.
As far as I'm concerned, jumping from the second floor is irrational, and I doubt that people would take the mick over you being sensible. If they would, then that's their own problem, not yours.
And if they laugh at you, then just tell them to try it as well.:p

Alternately, keep your head down, so people ignore you and have no reason to hate you.

Sigh... I know how it is. Ether do something and get hurt, or get your social status damaged. It's a no-win situation. As for which choice is better, neither are, although jumping of a second-story building is just plain moronic. (The dare, not you doing it) Next time when someone dares you to do something dangerous, tell them, "You go first. I'll follow you after." You may get some interesting results. If they try to steer the conversation away, tell them, "You're avoiding it." If they say the same thing to you, be honest about the situation, and then say, "Well if you can't do it, why should I?" Of course, I can't put words in your mouth, but I'm very sure they themselves wouldn't have done it. As for your reputation, you should get rid of it if it leads to things like this. It's my opinion of the matter, however, not an order. (Not that I have the power to, anyway...)

I think I'm going to get a shirt that says, "Dork @ [heart]". :p I don't think I necessarily qualify as a nerd, because I'm not that smart, nor do I keep up with new emerging technologies anymore [not since I got my computer in '04-ish].

Heh, great slogan idea.

Yeah. :p It's interesting: every time I go somewhere new, I might try to reinvent myself a little, but in the end I am who I am: a dork-ish person.

Heh, you're a dork? Lets step back a minute and look at me, I'm the kind of person that does the robot to Mr. Roboto, I speak french religously, convert my grades into Octal, Hexadecimal and Binary, for fun, and wears shirts that say 73H 1337 |( 1 ( |( 5 *bottom*. :p

It's all well and good, but what's so appealing about French, versus any other language?

I Am french, QED

To answer TyT. French is easier than english to learn. Much easier than german (No offense SP) and flows (usually) easy off the tongue.

And again, je suis francais.

Oh, and I will NOT shut up about Bleach.

Reborn! FTW. Bleach got nothing on that stuff. First half of the manga is HA-HA-HALAROUS! The second half have some of the best fights ever.

Its a shame this thread got moved to TM, thankyou for being offtopic guys, anyway I guess everyone is indeed right I should have just walked out of that dare but I pretended to be a............I don't know what but someone who had great courage and decide to take the dare head on!
As for the despising thing, its not because I'm bad or anything but its because of the fact that I'm smart and good in sports and am always in the good books of most teachers.
