View Full Version : Anyone interested in the return of SHFBA?

Remember that really old battle game with no continuity that was really just a random time-passer I started a long time ago and kept procrastinating on updating it until it died a swift, painful death? Well, I recently remembered it and though of new ways to innovate it. It'll basically be the old one (http://hamumu.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14817&highlight=SHFBA) except with;

1. New rewards that stick with you such as experience points (leading to level ups), money, fans, and honor.
2. A much more organized system (consisting of monthly (maybe bi-monthly) free-for-all brawls with players having an opportunity to Adventure (wait and see) or challenge other players to duels for experience and honor. Maybe occasional tournaments).
3. More abilities.
4. Seasons consist of 5 brawls followed by the top few players competing in the Champion's Brawl, which gives a Champion's Medal, tons of fans, tons of money, and major bragging rights.
5. If you gain enough money and honor, you can build your own arenas (wait and see)!
6. If you come up with a good idea voted in by the majority of current players (regardless of whether you play or not), I will implement it in the Monthly Update.
7. Lurkers, after 48 hours, can be voted out by the players themselves instead of automatically being kicked.
8. An expanded achievements system.

More ideas will be added if I think of them. I am looking for interested players (veterans from V2.0 and V1.5 will be given higher status than new players. In other words, their characters start new, but they automatically get achievements pertaining to things they did back then, along with the ability to host battles and some automatically being parts of the rulemaking counsel). I'd also like people to be able do make artwork for Arenas, possibly someone willing to make a website, and, of course, average players interested enough and able to check in every 2 days. If I garner enough interest, I'll start it back up again. If I can handle this with relative ease, I'll possibly restart Zombie Survival RPG (although it will be a total restart, as I forgot all plot details, and forgot to write them down).

Veterans of 1.5: Julian, Happystickman, CheeseLord, chaucer
Veterans of 2.0: Ufo-Man, Hammer Up!, .Blue Dwarf.

Banned people were not counted.

I hope you are all ready to have your faces eaten by my moles....

Anyway, incase you hadn't guessed I'm in.
As for your other PM to me, maybe. We'll see how things go before I try to take up extra responsibilty and work. And there's other questions to ask as well, I'll just PM you... Later though...

And perhaps this stuff could be put in the Forum Games section? Maybe?

SHH! Don't spoil it!

Anyways, I'd like to thank all current charter members for their excitement at the revival of the game. You guys are the reason I'm drawn here to Hamumu (along with anticipation for Loonyland 3). Thanks.

Alright, I have enough people, so I'll start working on the revisions. You can still sign up to reserve a place in the first brawl.

However, I'd like to pass one idea through the players, as making it would involve changes to the base formula; Arenas. Basically, it would work pretty similarly to Champions, as it would be a grid that the players move and fight in. There would be obstacles on the map (pillars, hidden traps, spike walls, etc.) High-level champions (with Paint.NET or a similar program) would be able to buy their own custom arenas. So, fighters, good idea, bad idea, or does it need some changes? If I get enough good ideas, I'll use it, enough bad ideas and I'll use the old system. Keep in mind, though, it will make hosting more difficult, as they will have an image to modify as well as stats and a narrative.

Everyone who advertises this thread in their sigs until the game starts gets a special, exclusive item once the game starts that will help get fans and money!

EDIT: Also, HSM, yay or nay to arenas. Basically, would you rather use the arenas (resulting in hosts posting less often, but adding more features to the game), or keep the old system?

EDIT 2: Actually, the arena idea is scrapped, as I have already got some SHFBA rules written down that cannot be merged with the idea. Sorry if you really wanted the arenas in. Instead, if you build an arena, you can host battles in your own arenas, giving you money for entry fees, and the abilities to set up your own traps. You can also pit players against monsters in your arenas.

Yay to the Arenas.

Come to think of it, if you really wanted to, you could still host a game with the arenas in it.

EDIT: Also, just a heads up to all players, PM me if you cannot read Word documents, as the rules will be published as a downloadable Word document.

I'd like everyone to now post what they would like their starting items to be if they could. If you meet the requirements for the Fancy Banner (the item you get for advertising the game in your sig), I'll give it to you automatically.

Starting items can be (pick one of each);

Main Weapons;

Standard Issue Shortsword + Cheap Buckler (+1 Armor)

Rusty Brass Knuckles (+1 Melee Damage)

Used Axe + Cheap Buckler (+1 Armor)

Retired Blacksmith's Hammer + Cheap Buckler (+1 Armor)

Petty Thief's Dagger (+1 Melee Damage)

Improvised Battleaxe (+1 Melee Damage)

Broadsword of Beginners (+1 Melee Damage)

Bigger Retired Blacksmith's Hammer (+1 Melee Damage)

Walking Stick (+1 Mana Regeneration)
-------

Ranged Weapons;

Boy Scout's Bow + 50 Loosely-Nocked Arrows (+1 Ranged Damage)
Rustic Blunderbluss (1 Reload Time, 1 Ammo) + 50 Scavenged Bullets (+2 Ranged Damage)
50 Old Kitchen Knives (+1 Ranged Damage)
20 Pointy Rocks on Sticks (doubles as a melee weapon)
-------

Armor (everyone is automatically equipped with Worn Trousers, Worn Gloves, and Worn Boots)

Itchy Cloth Robes (regenerate 2 Mana every 2 turns)

Loosely-Stitched Leather Jerkin (+1 Mobility)

Plastic Chainmail Vest (+1 Armor)

One-Sixth Iron Plate Armor (+2 Armor, -1 Mobility)
-------

Potions (everyone gets to pick 2 instead of one)

Children's Health Potion (Restores 4 HP)
Warm Tap Water (Restores 2 Mana)
World's Strongest Ant's Potion (Restores 2 Stamina)
---------

A little explanation of some things there you may be unfamiliar with;

1. Armor reduces damage you take from melee and ranged attacks by the amount of armor you have. For instance, a 3-damage sword slash does 2 damage if you have 1 armor.

2. Melee & ranged damage- self explanatory. Adds damage to your melee and ranged attacks.

3. Mobility is a bit harder to explain. Having positive, negative, or zero Mobility points does nothing to affect damage. However, attacking and (attempting) to dodge so much can really wear on your stamina if you don't have lightweight armor. If you have negative mobility, then every turn that you choose to use a move that costs Stamina or Mana adds the amount of Mobility points below zero you have to the cost. Likewise, if you have positive Mobility, the cost of your ability is reduced by your Mobility. Mobility cannot restore Stamina or Mana.
Also, having low Mobility can actually be dangerous all its own, as if you run out of Stamina and haven't paid the price of the move, you take damage (2 HP per 1 Stamina that you went overboard). If you run out of Mana in a similar manner, you become Spellshocked for the next turn, causing your armor to reduce by 2 + your current level. Sounds complex, but it basically means positive mobility good, negative mobility bad. However, armor with a high armor value often has negative mobility.

4. You may notice the ranged weapons have ammunition now- that means that if you use ranged attacks you must buy ammo to keep up with it. However, it can be worth it, as you won't have to buy as many potions, as ranged attacks cost lower Stamina and, occasionally, mana (some ranged moves involve enchanting your shots). Also, guns and crossbows can deal a lot of damage, but take a while to reload (the only one available now is the Rustic Blunderbluss, which, as represented by the "1 Reload", takes 1 turn to reload). Guns have the advantage of being able to hold ammunition (represented by the Rustic Blunderbluss' "1 Ammo", which means you get 1 shot before a reload).

Whew, that took a while to type. Anyways, it looks like a long read, but really, most of it is common sense and easy to remember.

EDIT: Seeing so much approval for the arenas, if I can find someone who can make neat, tidy grids (a 10x10, 15x15, and 20x20), I will add a bunch of stuff in a monthly update that will make modifications to allow for arenas.

I finished the rough draft of the rules! Download and read it here (http://www.mediafire.com/?gnornkczvyt) and then send me feedback, as I probably forgot a couple things (if you don't have Word, open it in Notepad; it's not really too complex format-wise). It's approx. 1 and 2\3 pages long, so it's a bit of a lengthy read for a rough draft, but it's important (also, watch out for mathematical formulas; just simple 5th grade pre-algebra really).

Also, here's the current charter w\ equipment status;

Yes, as it was an integral part to the game's popularity. The rules just don't mention it :oops:. Also, it appears you have missed this, but, as in V2.0, you are rewarded for advertising this thread in your sig. Also, a couple fun facts;

We have now attracted more SHFBA players at one time than any previous game (the previous record was 6, I believe; we now have 10). We have all veterans that have not been banned participating except for CheeseLord (sadly, his "I quit." in the last V2.0 game just gave me a feeling of closure :(. I'll still be happy if he does participate, though!). We have 3 new players (Reecer6, hyperme, and Mr. Mean (my brother)). I've also worked harder on it and intend to keep it running until I run into a huge pile of homework or college (6 years, so play while you can!). I am also for once, as seen in my previous post, giving players additional opportunities for input.

1. HSM, the arenas are not implemented yet. Plus, 20 damage attacks are extremely rare (Armageddon I believe is the only one that does that, and it does 15 damage to you)

2. Yes, moves marked Standard are the moves you start with.

Im changing my Special move to...

(If this seems... Wrong... just make Summon the Family my special move. I dont really care)

TRANSFORM!
Transforms me into one of 3 forms.

The Happy stick Tree, which halves my attack power but doubles my armor.
The Happy Stick Bird, which halves my armor but doubles my attack.
Or the Happy Stick Witch, which doubles all stats except for health, which is halved automatically apon the change into this form.

It costs me 2 mana/stamina for each transformation. Transformation's last as long as I want them to. I can change back at any time.

Alright, the Brawl will start soon. However, I need players to give me input on how they like their specialties after I edit them for balance\easiness to mod;

Bullet Turned (Reecer6)
Stamina: 1 per target
Type: Any Ranged
Effect: Deals 3 damage to each target.

Hammer Crush (Hammer Up!)
Stamina: 5
Type: Crush
Effect: Deals 5 damage to the target and 3 damage to anyone who attacked the target.

Summon Mole (.Blue Dwarf.)
Mana: 3
Type: Earth
Effect: Summons a Mole, which has Attack and 15 HP. When it dies, the master of it gets 2 HP, 1 Stamina, and 1 Mana.

Steal (Julian)
Stamina: 3
Type: Any Melee
Effect: Attempts to steal an item from an enemy, having a 50% chance to steal 5 Ammo, a 25% chance to steal a random Consumable, and a 25% chance of failure.

TRANSFORM! (Happystickman)
Mana: 5
Type: Arcane
Effect: Shapeshifts into one of three forms;
Happy Stick Man: Normal stats
Happy Stick Tree: -2 Melee damage, but +2 Armor.
Happy Stick Bird: -2 Armor, but +2 Melee damage.
Happy Stick Witch: -3 Armor, but +2 Spell damage and 1 Mana regeneration.

Darkness Override (Hyperme)
Mana: 5
Type: Dark
Effect: Reduces Health by 50%, but gives +5 Melee, Ranged, and Spell damage and changes all of the user's moves to Dark for 3 turns.

Dark Slime (Mr.Mean)
Mana: 3
Type: Dark
Effect: Summons 1 Dark Slime. Each turn, each Slime produces 1 additional slime. Each slime can block 1 damage, destroying the slime. Also, the user gains +1 Melee and Ranged damage per 2 slimes.

Freeze Time (Seamonkey)
Mana: 10
Type: Arcane
Effect: Freezes time for 2 turns, preventing everyone but the user from using any moves.

Fiery Rage (magic fly)
Mana: 10
Type: Fire
Effect: Gains 5 stamina and +2 Stamina per turn for 3 turns. All your spells now cost Stamina instead of Mana. At the end of the spell, you gain 1 Mana per 2 Stamina and lose all Stamina. You cannot cast Fiery Rage while under its effects.
