Generic thread.

I'm listening to "Deaf to all but the Song", Mystia Lorelei's theme.

I'd listen to someone else, but my right earphone is broken, and most of the songs I've downloaded sound terrible without it. :<
(Though this song is awesome)

Right now, as I'm typing this? "Another Rainy Night" by Queensryche. It's OK. Kind of a catchy song.

^Expand your taste in Dream Theater a bit more. Give "A Rite of Passage", "Forsaken", or "Beyond This Life" a try. Also, there are some similar bands (Symphony X, Opeth, Queensryche, and Blind Guardian, namely) that I highly recommend you give a try if you like Dream Theater (although Opeth might be a bit extreme for someone who listens to FOB, no offense).

Regarding Fall Out Boy... I have a hard time not writing an angry rant about them. The only band that's a larger tarnish on the music scene than them, in my opinion (you don't have to agree) is the Jonas Brothers. Bon Jovi, RHCP, and Santana are cool. I haven't heard any of the U2 songs you mentioned, but "Sunday Bloody Sunday" is awesome.

Anyhow, now I'm listening to "The Lotus Eater" by Opeth. Very good song, although it has a kind of creepy vibe. I've also been listening to the BEST SONG EVER, "Otherland" by Blind Guardian a lot recently. The best song ever based on one of the best book series ever.

Magnificent and I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight are from their new album No Line on the Horizon. Vertigo was originally on How to Diable an Atomic Bomb, I belive. Its awesome.

Also, I enjoy extreme music. Beat It is overall pretty bad, but the guitar sounds somewhat cool.

Currently:
Through the Fire and Flames -- Dragonforce -- Inhuman Rampage

TTFAF is the only guitar song impossable to play in real life. Dragonforce recorded it at a much slower tempo and sped up the recording. Made me lose respect for them, but the song is still awesome.

Killswitch Engage= Pwnage
Job For A Cowboy- Pwnage
Pink Floyd= Pwnage
The Fray= Never heard them.
Slipknot= A bit fake. Their singer isn't suited to the kind of music he sings, and their drumming is rather generic despite having 3 drummers.

My current playlist:

"Guerilla Radio"- Rage Against the Machine
"Vietnow"- Rage Against the Machine
"Bulls On Parade"- Rage Against the Machine

"Into The Wasteland"- God Forbid
"Cowboys From [Happy Pony Land]"- Pantera

Can't tell for sure, but do you hear new songs via Guitar Hero and Much Music? Because I find 90% of the songs on that list cringe-worthy. You're missing out on a lot of good music if you stick to the mainstream.

Try Youtubing a few of these bands: 3 Inches Of Blood, Arch Enemy, Artillery, Avantasia, The Aquabats, Be Your Own Pet, Behemoth, Black Tide, Flee The Seen, GWAR, Iwrestledabearonce, Job For A Cowboy, Kalmah, Kreator, Lordi, Manowar, Mudvayne, Nuclear Assult, Oh Sleeper, Testament, The Radioactive Chicken Heads, Vader, Venom.

I'm not saying what you listen to is "wrong" or "bad", but if you know very few or none of the listed bands, it's probably time to expand your musical horizons IMO. ;)

Wesley, is the one with the character's name from a game? If so, which one?

I think there's a Haruhi novel with the title, "The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya". (And might be in various Haruhi games, but I don't know much about them) But the song itself as being a part of a game, I'm not really sure. It was originally sung by "Miku Hatsune", one of the most popular Vocaloids. (As "The Disappearance of Miku Hatsune") There's a game called "Project DIVA" which is for the PSP, and the song can be imported to it. (Or may be in the game itself, I'm not sure) That's all I know, I hope I helped.

I've mainly been listening to power metal & death metal (real death metal, not Slipknot). Namely, Blind Guardian, HammerFall, Epica, Children of Bodom, and 3 Inches of Blood. I still can't decide which Blind Guardian song is best; "Another Holy War", "Theater of Pain", or "Another Stranger Me". The other ones have no question which is best (although all their songs are good); HammerFall's best is "Legion", Epica's is "Never Enough", COB's is "Angels Don't Kill", and 3 Inches of Blood's is "Destroy the Orcs" (although the last one gets repetitive for the first verse; it's just the singer repeatedly screaming "Kill the orcs! Slay the orcs! Destroy the orcs!")

I accidentally stumbled on a pretty cool band called Amorphis while looking for Blind Guardian lyrics. They used to be death metal, but now they play very melodic, Queensryche-esque progressive metal. I recommend everyone listen to "Silver Bride" and "I Of Crimson Blood". Very thoroughly awesome band.

System of a Down is awesome. Very original band. Toxicity is one of the best modern albums.

Anyhow, at the moment I'm listening to "Never Enough" by Epica. The singer almost sounds angelic (which doesn't really go well with the lyrics dealing with greed and breakup, but it goes well with the music)

As I tell every Dragonforce fan, listen to some real power metal. You're guaranteed to like it better. Blind Guardian, Stratovarius, Halloween (not the actual band name, but the last time I mentioned their band name, it got censored for some reason), Gamma Ray, Sonata Arctica, Rhapsody of Fire, Dragonland, Nightwish, and HammerFall are all much, much better than DF.

Some specific listening examples:

"Another Holy War"- Blind Guardian
"The Bard's Song"- Blind Guardian
"Punishment Divine"- Blind Guardian
"Eagle Fly Free"- Halloween
"Black Diamond"- Stratovarius
"Season of Faith's Perfection"- Stratovarius
"Armageddon"- Gamma Ray
"Wishmaster"- Nightwish
"Passion and the Opera"- Nightwish
"Legion"- HammerFall
"Heeding the Call"- HammerFall

You can tell what my favorite genre is.
