Glad to hear that reading is a big thing for you. I love to read and I am always trying to encourage my younger brothers to do the same. Unfortunately, like most teenagers, they are more interested in baseball and music than the written word!

BTW i found out why your picture doesn't show up for me. it is actually saved on your hard drive. so you can see it and we can't! sad for us! i asked the great and powerful OZ and he says that you need to change the location (the thingy you typed in to tell the computer where to look...know what i mean?) to the actual web address where you found the picture. i can't wait to see it!

if it is the one from the Hamumu home page with Loony saying "Loonyland: Halloween Hill" then this is what you need to put in for the pic location...

if it is some other pic then just right click on it and go to properties...highlight and copy the address for the pic and put it in for the location. Make sense?

I, too like to get the student perspective on the comments in this forum. Your advice to let the good teachers know that they have made a difference is a good one. Teaching is one of those professions where you may not know that you touched a life until many years later. I have had a number of students return on break form college or even later to let me know that I had prepared them more than adequately for the academic challenges they faced later. The ones that really make a difference though are the ones that let you know you had an impact on them personally.



Our school's PTL (PTA in some circles) have a teacher appreciation week in which they encourage parents and students to write notes of thanks and encouragement for their favorite teachers. We also have the students vote on a teacher of the year which includes comments as to why they selected the teacher they did. Sometimes it's little things like that that make an old teacher's day.



So, any other student opinions out there?



p.s. I, too, agree that those that yell more than teach should find another profession.

It's been two months without any action on this thread. Are all of us teachers out on break?



What have you guys been up to this summer, so far? Me, I've been taking a graduate course with the intimidating title, "Special Functions for Students of Engineering". The textbook was written by one of the professors at the university I am attending (University of Central Florida, Orlando), so the professor teaching it keeps checking with him about homework assignments! I'd tell you about the content, but unless you are into mathematics, it probably wouldn't make any sense. My wife just smiles and nods (what a woman!) when I tell her about my latest conquest of a nasty problem. Since I'm a teacher and not an engineer I'm not sure how I ended up in the class, but the material is interesting (the part I understand, that is). You'd be amazed at the number of ways you can represent the integer one (1)!

Just goes to show you how busy teachers are!! Like I said in the other post I got my first hired position this summer. I am teaching 7 preschoolers with autism. They are there from 9 to 12 but it sure feels like a whole day! They are pretty fabulous tho! 6 boys and 1 girl. Quite a handful!!!
