Let's talk about the game instead of the shipping. What do you say? Let's talk about the game.

Well I sure love it. Boy that's one COOL game.

YEAH! Me too! It is hard but fun and definitely do-able. I just have one question... Am I the only one who had trouble with "The Basement" in the desert world? It took me close to 20 tries before I got it. If anyone else got it easily please tell me what you did (author excluded, of course!). I am not a big computer game player, actually quite new to it all, but this game has me totally hooked! I'd love to hear your thoughts, Mr. X.

~sunni~

p.s. i just love this little alien guy...

That level IS hard! I've tried it at least 30 times and I still haven't gotten it! But at least it isn't one of those levels with impossible anslauts. It is VERY possible.

Jamul
06-26-2000, 08:00 AM
Actually I'll tell you what's up... the only clue as to what to do is in the name of the level, and it should've been clearer. You have to destroy all the egg sacs to open that door. Sorry, there should've been a sign or something!

Whew! I am thrilled to know that I am not the only one who had trouble with the basement. I was worried there was something WRONG with me! Good luck, with it, Mr. X! I had the biggest feeling of satisfaction and relief when I finally finished it! I'm cool cat bad!

I really liked the fumigation level. That one took me a long time but it was fun. One of my faves so far. Congrats on finding the keychain...I spent hours looking for it!

Have you tried any of the special custom worlds?? They seem difficult to me. Guess I will keep working on the main ones for now. I think I only have 4 levels left, but they are close to impossible...I just keep pluggin' away! How are you doing? Speaking of impossible on-slaughts, any advise for the Deathcapades? I have never even gotten close to finishing that!

Anonymous
06-26-2000, 08:00 PM
What I did on Death Capades is to get right by the cracks and shooting to kill the Cryozoids. Don't go past the cracks. If the other baddies come after you just move further away until they're dead. Don't cross the wall of Chinese food and Cryozoids until only the Super Zombie is left. Then use the basic technique against him.

P.S. Once you build a custom level, how do you play it?

Jamul
06-27-2000, 09:00 AM
You can select it from the world selector- push left to get the big question mark, then push up and down to go through the list (which includes the Expando-Pak levels if you have it). It will be named whatever name you assigned to the hub level in it (level 0), which is "New World" if you didn't rename it. Making levels is really complicated, so plow through the documentation for it a lot before you go too far!

two more and i'm done! all i need is the pumpkinhead keychain in "cavernous caves" (the lava maybe?) and i have yet to beat the 3 "bugs" in cartoon violence, the secret part of space station loony.any answers? also better hurry up with a sequel, something like "bouapha goes to sea",lots of baddies there ,in and on the water,or maybe a "prequel",bouapha,as a small child learns at the feet of his master, how to wield a mighty hammer! just my two cents!also any help on where exactly the details on how to build my custom world are would help,as through trial and error,(mostly error),i have figured out the what goes where ,and things like that, but there are no details that i can find in the editor section,on how to build and save more than one of my "creations".somehow i managed to build a world, but in the process, replaced spooky forest with it! not only that, but it wiped out the spooky forest demo download as well!good luck to all players, and i really hate the vampires!!!

well...almost...i have my loyalties...

but WOW!!! I am completely impressed that you are so far along. I have been playing forever (or so it seems) and I am only at 70-some%...I am slow and untalented at games. You are KOOL KAT BAD!! (recently learned that is how it should be spelled! )

Unfortunatly, I can't help you much. However, I DO know where to find the pumpkin keychain in cavernous caves. I won't tell you (I hate cheating! And someone would be very disappointed in me if I told...) but I could give you a hint. Or you could just fumble around until you found it!

I agree that it would be a total blast to have more DL to play when this is done. By the looks of the development snapshot we are in for a far different treat tho! I can't wait!!

Guess I will go plug away at Deathcapades...wish me luck!

JVAT, I answered your editing concerns in another topic, figured it'd be helpful to discuss editing in its own topic.

But the idea of baby Bouapha swinging a giant hammer is awfully appealing...

thanks for the kind words! actually the reason i'm so far along is the wife and i have a "rivalry" going when it comes to "bouapha" time limits, etc. she insists that i ask you for a hint for the pumpkin keychain.we don't like to cheat either, but a gentle "push" in the right diraection would be appreciated! she refuses to go in the upper echelon of space station loony,(too dark!) it can be intimidating when you don't know whats waiting for you! but its all part of the fun.whats great about dr.lunatic, spooky castle, etc. is that you learn not too take it too seriously, and that has helped me in other similar, yet definitely different in style, vid games. and jamul....bring on baby bouapha! just think of the merchandising possibilites! or at least a series on FOX!

Jamul
06-28-2000, 10:00 AM
No... Fox won't air it unless baby Bouapha is hit by a train or wins a million dollars. "When Pumpkins Attack VII"

I know that when you build a hub level you put stumps, caves, etc. as the levels. But how do you build those levels and put them in the proper cave, etc.? I need 100% and I mean 100% help in the editor but that would be too long.

Anonymous
06-28-2000, 01:00 PM
okay...the pumpkin keychain in the cavernous caves...you are absolutely right that it is in a lava level...to pass on the hint i was given - "you have to find something first...by going somewhere it seems rediculous to go". not much of a hint, i know, but it's all i got and i managed to find it. i hate to tell you too much and spoil the fun!

i totally agree with your wife on the whole not liking things jumping out of the dark issue...i was traumatized by a disney ride at a young age and haven't been the same since!! Anyway I am warning her that she might not absolutely love the keychain level in the caves...gets my blood pumping every time!! and it's HARD! i love it.

I have heard rumor that our illustrious developer, Jamul might take it upon himself to create a few bonus levels for DL. wouldn't that just be heaven on earth?? maybe if we chant "we want more" repeatedly...

So...enough rambling...good luck with the keychain. It's really not that hard once you get started.

~sunni~

p.s. maybe if baby bouapha were stuck on a deserted island FOX would be interested...

I have a friend who likes hamumu games. Is there some way I can print out the monsters in the game so I can show them to him?

Jamul
06-28-2000, 02:00 PM
Okay, the answer to Shock Troopers... I just tried it, and it took 4 tries, but I did it... the first thing is, they're a lot slower than Super Zombies, despite popular opinion! And that is the key. It's easy to stay out of their grasp, it's just very hard to avoid getting pummeled by the grenades. So always keep an eye on the shadows of the grenades to know where you can't be standing. Then, let them follow you around as you collect pants & hammers. Once you've got them all, continue to lead the guys around, and every time you get a good solid lead on them (like they are almost off screen), turn and hold down that fire button for all it's worth until they get close again. Then get away.

A fairly important trick is to make sure that you do those attacks when the badguys aren't firing grenades, so that you don't get bombed while standing there.

The most important thing is to change direction often. As long as you are continuing to run straight, you're mostly okay and probably won't get hit by any grenades, but when you are going to be standing still for a moment, you should probably be doing it off to one side, so all the grenades that were recently fired won't come near you.

It's not easy. But I know it's possible!

And hey, there's always cheating for scum.

How in the world are you supposed to beat "Cartoon Violence"? Those shock troopers are as tough as Super Zombies only twice as fast! How do you expect us to beat that?

Jamul
06-29-2000, 02:00 PM
Yes. Run.

Actually, diagonally is the best choice, and if you see an energy barrier, even sort of out of your way, grab it and continue running, without delay.

(In case you didn't know, the goal is straight up, about the middle).

Anonymous
06-29-2000, 02:00 PM
I need help in the level "Spelunkorama". In the level you eventually get to a huge lava pit with energy barriers to help get across it. Jamul, can you guide me through that?

Anonymous
06-29-2000, 03:00 PM
after trying everything over that had lava in it, i discovered, purely by accident ,and many fatalities, where the pumpkinhead keychain was, pure genious i must say, thanks sunny for the prod, don't know if it helped, but i do appreciate it! mowing down the pumpkins was a pure delight afterwards! now for the shock troopers! bastards! can't even kill one after 50 attempts (yea i counted!)at this point i will resign myself to building my own world with one, then two, then three of them to see exactly how many times i have to hit them before my ultimate triumph! maybe i just have too much time on my hands......................

Jamul
06-29-2000, 05:00 PM
If the shock troopers are the only thing left, have you checked the options menu lately? Fun things are added both for winning the game and for getting 100%. Those things may or may not help you beat the shock troopers, but they're enjoyable. Sorry the troopers are so impossible!

Anonymous
06-29-2000, 06:00 PM
I was hoping you would tell me where the energy barriers were.

Jamul
06-29-2000, 08:00 PM
I don't really know where they are... that's why I said run diagonally - gives you lots of opportunity to spot them. There are more than you need, so it's not as scary as it looks!

Anonymous
06-30-2000, 02:00 PM
had the stickman and dr.lunatic in the options, tried the not so good doctor first, a loser as always! but the stickman rocks! my new favorite character,(but i can still kick his butt!) guess all thats left now is to wait for sol hunt, huh?

Jamul
07-01-2000, 09:00 AM
Dr. L always gets a bad rap... I think he's actually a little more powerful than Bouapha. See, the way multiple hammers work for him is that his initial shot has to hit a badguy, and once it does, it sends out as many extra lightning bolts as you have extra hammers, each one at a different badguy (or the same one if no others are close enough) - even through walls! So it doesn't give you the spread fire, but it's pretty nice to hit with one and have all the rest guaranteed to hit.

Now you can play Kid Mystic or Spooky Castle if you haven't... or you can work on making your own Dr. L levels... there will definitely someday (I think?) be some free levels coming from me. Then there's Sol Hunt and some other stuff coming up.

Hey JVAT... hang on another day or two, and I will upload The Desert Arena, a new, extremely hard, and uniquely different Dr. L world. I am just having someone test it right now, it should be okay though. Then I am going to work on another.

The Arena's pretty cool - instead of the normal world layout, it has a set of levels you can tackle in any order, but you only get 1 hammer and 1 pants with which to do so. Pass any level, and then you'll have 2 hammers and 1 pants in them all... pass another, and it's 2 and 2... and so on. The more levels you pass, the more powerful you get. Which is good, since some of the levels are insane. This world doesn't take thought, just dexterity - it's all fighting with no puzzles. I am going to work on an easier one that is sort of the opposite soon.

Anonymous
07-13-2000, 09:00 AM
I played the Arena!I loved the Arena! Great design. No one else could have thought of the hammer and pants system! You are the man! Has anyone else finished a world? It's cool to breath new life into a game that wasen't dead. I don't think the editor is to hard. But, I don't have any level ideas.

Anonymous
07-13-2000, 02:00 PM
i agree! thought it was pretty easy though, but i'm not complaining! most areas only took one try with the exception of the bosses, 3 times but 2 were exploratory, and killing the evil clauses took some time, but overall it was great! just wondering if bouapha seemed a little "stiff" to anyone else, moves a little less smoothly than usual,of course he is much older now! anyway, thanks jamul, YOU ARE THE MAN! if praise was money, you could never spend it all!

Jamul
07-13-2000, 07:00 PM
hmm, shame praise ISN'T money... anyway, I'm glad you guys liked it. I'm horrified you thought it was easy though. Took me upwards of 20 tries to beat the bosses (although... the first 18 or so were with several much tougher aspects to them, like no weenie guys to give you weapons, Mush, and a couple other bosses. Anyway, I swear it's the same old bouapha... didn't change the game code any. Maybe your joystick has mental problems.

The original Santa Claus situation was a lot cooler... they'd keep pouring in from these teleporters, but some ended up getting stuck and stuff, so it didn't work out. Would've been really nasty. There will be another world available soon... maybe... semi-soon anyway. I think.

Hey JVAT, you make one... I'm sure it would be scary indeed, if you thought the arena was too easy.

Anonymous
07-14-2000, 07:00 AM
JVAT scares me! I've only completed 2 levels so far. Trust someone who isn't freakishly good at the game. It's HARD! I don't always like hard levels like that in games, but this one is just fun!

Anonymous
07-14-2000, 02:00 PM
Me again...i just have to say that you ALL scare me...i am not even close to finishing and i feel safe saying that i have had the game longer than any of you...how sad for me! i have only just glanced at it but i think the new level will be totally awesome! i think there should be a new SUPER-EZ level for those of us who are gaming challenged...just a thought.

lets get back to this baby boupha thing........ how about if an evil entity has stolen all the baby formula, baby food, cows, (gotta have milk!)diapers, baby powder, etc. and baby bou has to get it all back? evil characters like cashiers,(when is the last time you were thanked for spending your dime?)bag boys, (little snots),of course zombie delivery men! any thoughts? by the way,by no means did i mean to insult anyone about the "ease" with which i solved the desert arena, i just finished one of those 3 year old games that end up on a kmart shelf, called mageslayer, and that sucker took me 2 months to finish! and that was with the supposed easy setting, yikes! i'll take my man boupha any day!

Anonymous

JVAT...you should start up a new thread for this...it could be good! just start up a baby bouapha thread...

or maybe a gaming ideas thread...

whatever! i LOVE this forum...it is cool to see that there are others out there who appreciate a well written and challenging game like i do...HAMUMU RULZ!!

We should all help Jamul out and get our friend here too! It's more fun when there are lots of voices throwing in their two cents. And that was mine! bye!

Mr. Mulder.

the desert world can be found on the free download page.

the government cannot be heald responsible for any damage to your brain from playing this incredibly hard world tho.

all attempts should be made at your own risk.

good luck!

Well, Dr. Lunatic was the last released of all 3 (Dr. L and both Spooky Csatles), but it was the first one created... it's the mama... the other two are the babies. Well, Spooky Bouapha is obviously a baby. Kid Mystic is an offshoot created because a publisher wanted the game, but wanted to replace Bouapha with "a wizard or a dinosaur"... so instead I just did a whole new game with the wizard idea, nad of course based on the same engine. Bouapha is near and dear to my heart.

I hope you are proceeding to get scared by the arena.

Is it just me or is Matilda alot harder than any of the other bosses? I mean, she has two claws, her head, her scull, and her brain! Not to mention that annoying tail! By the way, is there any way to destroy that tail?

Jamul
07-29-2000, 11:00 AM
Matilda is definitely the supreme boss. I made the forest first, maybe 4 months before the other worlds... so it's almost a whole different style, and I went way overboard. It used to be like ten times harder (the levels and matilda too). I think Matilda had more than double her current hit points. She's still the toughest and does the most interesting things. Her tail is invincible. That's because once she's down to her brain, she has no other defense, and it'd just be a cakewalk. So instead she goes nuts and becomes nearly invincible. Luckily her brain has few hit points.

In the downloads section, the worlds are labeled as site 1, site 2 etc. Which is Spooky Forest, which is Dusty Desert, which is Icy Mountain, and which is Cavernous Caves?

Jamul
08-12-2000, 09:00 PM
Those aren't the worlds, those are just different FTP/HTTPsites you can download from. All four of those links are just the Dr. Lunatic demo. The Desert Arena is the only world you can download on that page - and you just click right on it!

OK! OK! I'm going crazy! I've been through all the levels (including ones with Lava) several times looking for the pumpkin keychain and I just can't find it. I've hammered and blasted every wall and still no luck! Can someone tell me which level or email it to me?

Probably the trickiest keychain of all... in BBQ lake... don't have to shoot anything at all.
