HEY GUYS!!

check out the new levels on the download page!! They rock. I am totally impressed with the one by Mr. Stevens! I hope that it motivates some more of you to make new levels for lazy people like me!

The "easy" one is fun. I was able to get all the way thru so it MUST be easy!

Anyway...GO. PLAY. ENJOY.

and then tell me all about it.

thanks, sunangel. It was my first attempt at using the editor. What worked best for you, and what sucked? Mark (Stevens)

well...to be entirely honest...i watched it being played. i have not yet braved it myself. However, i WAS quite impressed with the inventive puzzles that you made. That is what i like best about Dr. L...the fact that occasionally you have to engage the old grey matter to win. (Don't worry Jamul...it is still dumb as can be!) Hooray!

Tell you what...i will screw my courage to the sticking place and go thru your level on my own. Then i will have more interesting things to say.

in the meantime...get that next level done! : )

i think i should meet your partner...it seems that she has the same problems with Dr L that i do! i am actually on a Dr L sabatical because my boyfriend thought i was getting too worked up by it! actually i am just laying off the actual game for now...the extra levels have been fun. now that i am done with a long and complicated moving process i shall begin playing your level. i will let you know how long it takes before i am reduced to a pile of cursing goo! your partner and i can compare!

i think your idea of a puzzle level is FANTASTIC. i much prefer that to the "all violence, all the time" levels...my brain always goes into overload (in the Death-Capades, for example! aaaaaughhhhhhh!!!) i can't wait to see what you come up with!

I definitely think you should... I originally planned to do just that after I made that Desert Arena (all violence, all the time) world. In fact, I had this brilliant idea I tried out that didn't work so well: each level would be a 'mystery'... the example level I made had a closed room you could see into with a dead body in it, a fireplace, and no apparent way in. So you look at that, then walk over to the side where you get a key and can open one of four jail cells, each with a different monster in it. Pick the wrong one, and you are tossed in a pit of fire, pick the right one (and kill him, because after all, he's a murderer) and you win. Kinda pointless since you can keep playing until you get it by trial and error, but fun in theory to figure out. In practice, not that exciting.

(the real crook was Santa... he came in the chimney)

(yes, the idea was stolen from Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions)

I hope you have a go at the level yourself, really soon. After all, what's the worst thing that can happen to you? Well, you could get splatted time after time. That's not so bad. Unless you're like my partner, who sometimes takes it rather personally when she gets stuck on a level and can't complete it. She seems to think that who ever designed the level deliberately made it JUST a tiny bit too hard for her ever to finish it. Nonsense. Everyone knows that it has nothing to do with the game designer. You put the game on your hard-disk, and Dr L has control of your PC. From his secret hide-away he waits patiently until my partner has almost finished a level and then he summons up one more monster to zap her or, his favourite trick, waits until she hears those magic words (I'm kool kat bad) and then nudges her into a river! Evil, yes, but you've got to admire the genius of it !!

By the way, I've been thinking of doing a world where most of the levels are made up of puzzles and there's not much call for hitification. Do you think that would be a good idea, or do most prefer splatting monsters?
