Don't get too excited, it's not ready yet. It'll be about another month before it hits the ether (I'm using the word 'about' in the Jamul sense, ie it could be two or three .... or four!) But I did promise a taster of what's to come.

I've never seen a site like this one before. There's loads of info on using the editor and I'm really pleased with the navigation and graphics (don't worry..there's no silly animating pictures or clever/unnecessary flash stuff). The site starts with a simple choice .. one link for those who've never heard of Dr L before (I'm hoping to get some traffic via search engines and links to games and graphics sites) and one link for those who have the game. This second link takes you into the main body of the site. There are 7 main sections:

1..START takes you on a brief guided tour of the game and the editor, explains some of the basics things you need to know, and generally settles you into using the editor and the site.

2..WORLD 1 shows you, step by step, how to make an 8 level world. You'll have access to two guides..one uses a lot of screen shots and is for dipping in and out of. The second only uses a few graphics and is designed to be printed off and then read whilst you're off-line and actually using the editor. This world introduces you to 3 tricks and techniques per level, so you learn whilst you're building it. This world will not be released, so only those who make it will ever get to play it !

3..WORLD 2 yup, another 8 level world to build! This one is a bit more advanced and uses a brand new tile set I've made for you. Like World 1 there're two versions of the instructions and it won't be released.

4..HOW TO is the 'meat and drink' of the site, explaining how to use all elements of the editor.

5..ARTIST is the section explaining all about making your own graphics, from floors and walls, to animations, maps and even movies! I explain how I made the tiles for World 2, which graphics editors you ought to use and I even show you the best FREE graphic editor for Dr L and where to get it. And how to use it!

6..TRICKS the fun bit..how to make things move, change, disappear, blow up, and sections on booby traps, killing floors and other ways to ensure players meet a grisly end.

7..HELP glossary, index and troubleshooting.

There's also links to different freeware and shareware sites, and I'll be adding new tilesets over time, that you'll be able to download and use to make new games. Plus a roll of honour, with the names of all those who've made worlds and had them posted on Jamul's site.

Hope that sounds good. By the way, on the introductory part of the site, for those who haven't heard of Dr L before, I'm putting some nice quotes from software sites that have reviewed the game. I'd also like to use some (brief) quotes from fans of the game. So, if you've something you'd like to say, drop me a line and give me permission to use the quote on the site. Right, back to my webmastering (ho ho). Mark

I can't wait for your website. I am needing some tilesets so that I can continue making new worlds. I take way too long to make new tiles so I like to steal them from those who can make good ones. Can we get an update on your progress?

That'd be REALLY helpful for the items, especially since they don't show numbers on the items screen (until you highlight one), and there's ones like the little wooden post hidden behind the big tree. For the monsters though, many paint programs will do a screen capture (Paint Shop Pro is what I use, results visible on this website in fact), and you can just capture the monster page and print it. If you Negative it first, it won't even use up much ink!

Actually, Lisa, I AM including lists of items and monsters. Sounds as well (there's over 250 of them, and the only way to find out what they are is to open each wav file individually). The lists won't be on the site itself, but in a down-loadable printed version. Incidentally, an incomplete but useable version of my site should be up and running within 2-3 weeks. Fingers crossed! Lisa:

I was planning on making all of my tilesets available on Mark's web site. He is going to have a place to download tilesets. I am sure that he will also allow others to upload them. Any tilesets that you want from me I can get to you someway.

As soon as he gets the site up I will ask him to post all of my tilesets. I'm not currently working on another world. I am doing other things. I tend to do new worlds when I get an inspiration. I was hoping that people like Mike, Mark, and yourself would do a bunch of them so I could steal some more ideas. I get great ideas just by looking and playing other worlds.

I am in fact working on one myself, but A> so far just using the normal jungle tileset, and B> not making much progress since generally people yell at me when I'm not making new games! It should be VERY different though from the standard. It just came to me all of a sudden... I think you'll notice a Loonyland influence in it. I got to thinking about how one could make a 'quest'/story type of architecture in a Dr. L world. We'll see how it works out. Maybe it will inspire you!

Don't get too excited... it may only vaguely resemble any sort of quest to ME... it's kind of abstract, you know. But it will be different. I'm trying to make it where rather than playing each level once, there are 3 huge levels and you go back and forth between them, doing different parts. I don't know how it will pan out. It's really hard to balance actually. We shall see!

Sorry, been a bit busy. Yes, there will be an area where you can download tile sets (complete ones from existing worlds) and partial ones based around particular themes and topics. What I'm particularly keen on is getting everyone using a paint programme. Even if you've no inclination to create your own graphics (there are loads of huge, detailed tutorials to help you if you want to have a go), the ability to use cut/paste and import, will allow you to pinch any tiles you like from existing sets and make your own set up. Then you won't have to do anything as drastic as take a whole world with a tile set you like, wipe out all the levels, and start again from scratch.

The launch date is April 1st. The site won't be complete then, but there will be enough to keep everyone busy for some time. I'll be adding more as time permits, but I expect the whole thing to be complete by July. In the meantime you'll just have to bear with me. You'll see why it's taking so long when I open the virtual doors!

PS I've got my LoonyLand CD. Yippee !!!!

Quite a bit is currently residing on the Net. It's a bit rough around the edges in places and I've only just started testing it properly. Jamul's had a sneak preview and I've had 5 or six e-mails from him pointing out all manner of errors. How serious they are remains to be seen. So should I publish early or wait until the site's been polished? I can't make decisions. Or can I? Give me a couple more days. Mark
