View Full Version : New worlds by anyone?

Just curious as to what anybody's working on these days! I'm working on Stockboy, so don't look at me. Though I've had some big ideas for Dr. L levels... too bad I can't work on them. Here's one I think someone should try:
You know the desert arena type trick, where you get more powerful as you pass more levels? I was thinking of doing something where instead of getting more hammers and things by doing that, you'd gain access to new sections of the same levels. For instance, at first Level 1 would just be a fairly vertical passage where you had to get by some magmazoids and grab some brains and such. Then, once you pass 3 levels, a message shows up on the hub that you now have Bronze Level Access, and so a new section is open on all the levels available from the hub. So now in level 1, you could take that vertical passage, or you can step aside into a neighboring area which twists and turns and is full of various threats (with no brains in it), and at the end of it is a teleporter to a new level. That level would be fairly short, since most of the work involved in passing it you already did by getting through the extra portion of Level 1. The only reason it would be an extra level in fact is that you can only get credit for passing each level once.
I hope that made sense... any other wacky notions? The Fun Pack should've added things that can be used in some really interesting ways.
PS - Lisa, your new rank was too long, it kind of hurt the layout of the forum a little, so I hope you don't mind that I shortened it.

Let's see...what am I?

Sorry, I'm a little pressed for time these days, maybe around Christmas break I'll start something. I like the idea mentioned above. Here's another idea. How about a world constructed by a bunch of builders? Someone could start it, pass it on to the World Tester Guy, who would check out that level and then pass it on to the next builder. I think I could handle one level. It's an entire world that takes time. A theme could be suggested to start it all off and interested builders could submit their emails to the World Tester Guy to be included in the chain. What do you think Dr. Lunatic World Builders? Can we all unite for the common good? (Can unionization be far behind?)

I had this idea a while back - people could create a single level (well, an almost-empty hub and one level), send it in to me, I would work some computer magic, and put them all together into a single world. My idea was to have it as a contest. Say you were to make a level using a given tileset, with a given name. Then people could play the world containing them all, and vote on which is the favorite!

I'd be willing to do that. It would be fun.

Great idea! Why not also have a category for rookies--maybe it will be less intimidating. Actually, you could have a couple of different categories, such as best specials, best lay out of scenery, hardest, easiest, most fun, most satisfying to beat, most surprises, takes the most brain power to beat, etc. Then post polls in its own category on the forum.
What about key chains and secret levels? Maybe randomly assign those?

Might be more fun if you had to find all 4 keychains in each level! Of course, you'd have to restart your game for each one, or you'd never find them. I like the multiple categories. Maybe if we find out how many wish to enter before it starts, we could make the tileset be a certain set of base tiles (something with very few, like Spooky Forest), and then each person has a block of say 4 floor and 4 wall tiles that they can do with as they please, to make the best scenery competition more exciting.
And then after all that, no names go on the worlds, just a number, and once everyone's voted, we find out who won!

Why use a limited tile set? I like the idea of lots of options. I do like the idea of not having name of the person who made the level before the voting.

I meant a limited tileset so that there'd be lots of room to give each person free reign to make a few. Not to limit the total options! Of course it would limit them still, since they couldn't use anybody else's extra tiles, so it'd just be their few original (or copied) tiles along with the few basic ones. So maybe it's not the best idea. I believe it was TV Lunacy that I got a copy of "UniversalTiles.bmp" with. That'd be a good choice, as you can guess by the name. Although it does have little stargates and things on it too...
Here's another idea: 3 contests (each with those various awards - most fun, hardest, easiest, etc) - Small, Medium, and Large! I'm quite partial to small levels myself, and it's fun to see just what people can do in that much space. And this way, complete rookies can compete more evenly - anybody can attempt a small level, right??
Keep the ideas coming before I get around to setting something up!

Wow, I had an idea of a world compleatly consisting of small-sized levels and a VERY small tile set(would only need 3 floors and 1 wall, but more would make it nice). Never did finish it(or my others for that matter, I tend to be lazy) But if there was some kind of dated compatition, I would be more than motavated to finish.

It would be like a training simulator, 2 floor tiles for a black and white alternating tile floor, 1 for the tops of walls, and the same wall over and over. Kinda like the training simulator in x-men. A very clean, sterile room. It would be nondistracting, and since it was suppose to look like everything happened in the same room no one would find it bizarre.

Well we're only talking about making a single level, so if you weren't motivated enough to finish THAT, it would be very sad! Wacky Woods was my world of only small levels (One was actually medium, but you could only play in an area about the size of a small level). I had a lot more fun making it than normal. I really like small levels! Less frustration all around. I'd be interested to know how you'd get away with 3 floors and 1 wall though...
