Stockboy costs $14.95 to download, $19.95 on CD, which is considerably less than 31 dollars according to my calculator.
On top of that, the money I 'get' from each copy is about $10 at best after the direct costs of printing and shipping (or bandwidth on the download versions). And I have to use that money to pay my business expenses, like running this website for example.
Now, I worked for over a year to create this game. If you think about how much money people - for example, migrant field workers who are being brutally exploited - make in a year, you start to realize that I will need to sell VERY many copies of this game to be even poorly compensated for that year of work.
The lowest yearly salary I could find in Game Developer Magazine's salary survey was for an audio engineer with less than 2 years of experience: $34,955. So, in order for me to make that much, I would have to sell about 3,500 copies of Stockboy. Nevermind that I have over 8 years of experience, and also do the Production: $66,935, Design: $51,741, Art: $53,184, and Programming: $49,602 (all figures are for someone with less than 2 years experience). And if I did sell those 3,500 copies, I still wouldn't make $34,955 - because I have to spend the money that comes in on business expenses. That's something the employee at a big company does not have to do.
If you do the math on that, you'll see that I'm not making games to get rich. If I was a "pig for money", I would be working at some giant corporation, cranking out dull first person shooter games and hating my job. Instead of that, I choose to spend my time making the games I want to make and hopefully making people happy. That's more important to me than getting rich. Now, I'm not complaining about how little I make (but Solee knows I do that plenty at home!), I just want you to understand that I am making games because I love it, and not only am I not a "pig for money", but I price these things a lot lower than is good for me - just so that more people will play and enjoy them.
We have a rule on this forum about not insulting people, so please stop calling others names, including me!

Oh, I see how you got $31! Well, everything still holds true: that's still FAR cheaper than anybody else's games, and it's still not much money, and I'm still not a pig, and it's STILL not allowed to call people names on the forum.

I think $20 (US) is a good price for Stockboy; it's a really fun game that isn't just a variation of some other game. Devon, tell your dad it will put your brain into gear!
Mike, what happens if someone pays for the download and later it gets deleted from their hard drive? Is that the end of Stockboy for them? I like the idea of having the CD myself.

I like the CD too! If somebody needs their download replaced, within reason, we can probably do that. However, you really need to keep your own backup of it if you get the download. Because replacing it costs us money! The idea of getting the download is sort of that you're going to burn your own CD of it or something - that you're going to keep the install files around somewhere. Think of it this way: if you bought the CD and then lost it, would it be Hamumu's responsibility to replace it? No, you'd have to buy a new one. However, we may give some leeway on that, since it's much easier to lose a file than something real.

You shouldn't be asking that. The original game just came out a week ago.

I have that game, and I didn't even pay $10. I think you are lying, in a good way, if that is possible.

I hope everyone enjoys this game as much as I do. I am planning on buying a copy to give to my parents who have been DYING to play ever since I have started talking about it, they love these sorts of games! They are also eggbert fans and I bought that game for 5.99 so devon, you should probably shop around a little more before you pay 80 dollars for a game. Even if Stockboy cost 20 dollars more than it already does, it would still be a good deal because it is WAY better than eggbert ever was!

Well remember Edmonton doesn't have good CD seletions. and my dad has to drive far to get to a CD store so I couldn't find speedy eggbert any where so we had to order it. and USA has all the good games not edmonton.
PS I never seen hamumu games just got a demo of Dr.l so if it wasn't for goldseal I wouldn't exsist here.

If you mean add-on LEVELS and not like an Expando-Pak, then of course that's up to the fans... if you make add-ons, there will be add-ons! However, I can tell you that before the game even shipped, two of the beta testers made HUGE add-on level sets. So when you get the full version (and unlock the add-on mode, since it's hidden), you'll be able to make Stockboy auto-download those levels, and you will enjoy them.

Oh, Mike, I see...burn a copy on a CD. More and more I wish I had gotten a CD burner!
Jamul

But let's make sure that nobody is confused here: it's perfectly legal and acceptable and good to burn copies of your games for your OWN personal back-ups. That's just good thinking. It's giving them or selling them to others that is illegal. So nobody yell at me or Lisa for talking about CD burning.
I actually own a bunch of shareware stuff I've gotten as downloads over the years, and I just have the original install files in a specific folder on my hard drive where they stay. Then if I move to another computer, I can just copy them over to that computer with all my other important stuff. Saves on CDs! Of course, I'm really bad about backing things up in general. Hamumu software will be ruined if I ever have a hard drive crash.

I have an idea. You should zip all the install files for game, and put them on a disk or two. That way, you would still have the install files in your posession in case anything happens.

Jamul, what if you download Stock Boy, but you restart the WHOLE computer all over again. Could you give us a way to download it again without paying? That seems pretty harsh. Maybe you could give(all) the demo(s) a registration code to change the demo into the full version!?!(or something like that)
PS I like Dr Lunatic better than The Real Homer Jay Simpson

This was already discussed above... just as if you had bought it on CD, if you destroy or lose the copy you bought, it's gone. The only difference between a download version and a CD version is that it's MUCH easier to trash a download version. You are welcome to make your own backup copies to prevent that, of course. It costs me money to have you download the full version!
We also can't do the registration code system, just because the full games are huge. For example, Loonyland, which isn't the biggest game, is about 25MB. So if there was a demo version that could become the full version, it too would have to be 25MB. NOBODY would download it to try it out, so nobody would ever end up buying it!
If you're concerned about losing a download version, and don't want to make backups, please order the CD version! That's why you can get it both ways, to meet your specific needs.

Nope, you have to earn it! You'll have more than enough stars if you just go through the Employee Training. Which you should do anyway! Or I think that's enough, I don't remember exactly.
