Wow, with a score like that, it sounds like you were just about ready to survive shift-Q! Did you survive long enough to see anything happen or was it the usual eyeblink?

No, nothing special happens, I just always wondered if you could get powerful enough to stand a chance.

My high score was a Level 20 Chef, 3278035, defeated by a Pupotron in A Very Bad Place. I agree, resist Shift-Q, at least until you are level 35.

Ill get that WoMD sword, but sheesh mike, -355 charisma! :!: ill be poor for a while' til i get good charisma! what does womd stand for anyways? and do ALL potions heal? :?:

Level 22 wizard with WomD, Sun Mask of Solee, Oven mitts of Abestos, Armor of All, Bunny Slippers, Amulet of Omelet, Supreme Shield with Cheese, Hungry Man Dinners, a bunch of Love Potions, Fruit Loop, 5 Rings of Uppityness, and (drum roll) $379,434 cash! I can make it through the Evilness Pit easy with my Love Potions, and I've gone to the Shift Q place twice and escaped both times.
EDIT: Oh, and the WomD sword is worth it. It doesn't bring up the prices as much as you would think -350 charisma would, but with it you make money so fast it's not even funny.

Do people know how to back up your save files?
It's really helpful in a game like Npc Quest

I USED to have a level 23 gaurd named uliacy with all the best stuff

curse you shift-Q!!!!!!

I have a level 24 Theif
Strength 33 (207)
Speed 122(241)
Accuracy 1 (110)
Intellect 1 (85)
Defense 1 (225)
Stomach 1 (75)
Charisma 1 (-258)
Weight 51 (91)

all the best items plus 4 rings of Uppityness

I think this is a good load out for surviving shift-q at the lowest level possible.

Speed is very important because it is basically a damage multipiler, if you move twice as fast as them you'll have a 4x advantage (2xdamage given 1/2x damage taken). Nothing in "A very bad place does more than 1 damage, so it's all about how quickly they attack.

Strength is important because the "very bad place" monsters have a defense of around 150, meaning the best weapons on their own do (180-150 =) 30 points of damage. Ideally you want this to one hit kill the monsters so you'll need a strength of about 40 or 50 plus the best weapons to do so.

I added 41 weight so I could carry more potions and less rings of uppityness.

Anway my suggestion for a level 21 character to have a chance there would be:

56 points into strength (this should get let you kill pupotrons in about 2 hits)
20 points into weight (this will get you 8 potions)
84 points into speed (should get you to 203 speed)

Also don't give your NPC any food because you can't tell the NPC to retreat. But without food the NPC will leave on it's own.

Take all the best items except lose the shield. As long as the monsters keep only doing 1 point of damage there is little point in raising defense. This allows you to put 12 fewer points into weight than you would otherwise.

Anyway just some ideas,

-John

I haven't been able to in "A very bad place" either it is disabled or the inputs jam due to all the activity. At least in windowed mode, I haven't tried it full screen.

If you have tested it on this level (shift-Q) and know it works please let me know.

Jamul

Yeah, running away works on any level. The problem is, he'll still fight anyone to the death if they come in contact with him. And in a very bad place, there's not much room where there aren't enemies!

I was a level 20 chef and died on shift-Q, so I resolved to become stronger until I could beat it...
I toiled and toiled for many months, building my power, and building it higher and higher. I was finally a level 25 chef with all of the best equipment, FIVE rainbow rings of joy, and astronomical stats.
I charged into the Very Bad Place, preparing for the culmination of months of work...
and after a while, I died.
Sad indeed.

One of my little tricks is to copy your savegame before trying a new area. That way, if you die, you can continue from the backup.

But it's part of the game. (If you die the save file dies too)
