Ok I'll try and describe this game as best i can but it's been 17 years or so since i saw it. I believe it was a DOS game, because I seen to remember playing on an IBM. I seem to remember the game being called "castle" though it could have had any number of words in front or behind it. It a pretty basic game, you were in a castle or trapped in a castle or something like that. They game was played from over head and you used I think the arrow keys to move around and you would go around from room to room pick up things and trying to avoid monsters, that if they touched you would kill you. was real simple but my brother and I were talking about it yesterday and i wanted to see if it still existed in some form to show him.
If you have any idea what I'm talking about please help me out

For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother;

Just wanted to remind everyone to be careful when using websites that claim to have old, hard to find games for you to download. Some of these sites are in fact distributing these games illegally, without permission of the publishers and/or authors. Although they often claim to be doing a service by getting old, abandon games out into the public, if they are doing this without permission it is wrong (no matter how much we might want to have that particular game). I am not naming any names or accusing anyone on this site (or mentioned on this site) of doing this. I just want to remind you all to be aware of this. Even though it might seem good for the consumer it is actually damaging to the gaming industry, particularly to small, independent companies like Hamumu Software. On the other hand, looking around for, buying and encouraging companies to sell these games IS good for business, as long as it is done legally! Thank you for listening to my little rant, and for being part of our website! : )

dangerous dave was a little side scroller , where your xharacter runs around a mansion , trying to find his girlfiriend , it is very hard , and your only armed with a shotgun . You use your shotgun to blast enemies apart , the enemies are , zombies , little men who throw knives , slime that jumps around , and spiders , also includes bosses . I highley suggest this game , and it is my favorite game of all time , it is freeware now (parents stongly cautioned , zombies and shotguns = blood and gore ). You might be able to find it somewhere , if i get it , i'll send it to you , once again it is freeware , so no harm having it =)

Well, the original Castle Wolfenstein was a top-down map type of game with extremely crude graphics for the Commodore 64, it may have lived long enough to make it onto the first wave of DOS IBM's. There was another 64 game more like what you describe, called Sword of Fargoal. There were 100 levels, they were all randomly generated each game, and each level screen was all black until you shed light on areas as you explored. Long time ago!

Anyone ever played an old dos game called ZZT? It ownz! its like an adventure game and you could make your own games with it, and there was this cool one called Burger Joint where you have to keep a crappy excuse for a 1950's fast food shack open and with a fair reputation. You have to do anything you can, be it evil as it may. I'm about 30 minutes into the game and i've already killed about 7 customers...

Did anyone play a very old game called Hack - or NetHack? It was a sort of dungeon and dragons type game, all done in ASCII. I remember playing it on an old 4.77 Mhz XT. The game is still played and is still being updated. www.nethack.org/

There's a whole huge crowd of games in that type, called Roguelike games (since the very original one was Rogue... or really probably Moria, but anyway, they're called Roguelike). There's a set of newsgroups on usenet specifically for them. My favorite was not nethack, but Zangband, which is one of about a billion variant versions of Angband. It's less crazy than Nethack, you're more likely not to die for seemingly random reasons. Of course, these games aren't for everyone... they're nearly impossible to figure out how to play! They use almost every key on the keyboard to do something. And though you can play them with graphics nowadays, you're still better off leaving it on text mode, because it is REALLY hard to tell what's what looking at the graphics, and that's very important since different monsters can lead to your death quite differently (and when you die, you have to start over completely!).

Yes, I remember playing Nethack with a printout of all the commands and having to refer to it often. And you're right about the ending coming at seemingly random moments. I went to the Nethack site and considered downloading it, but I think its appeal now is more to do with nostalgia than anything else. Still, I recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen any of the older computer games.
