I didn't remember anything about it, but I checked it out, and F2 is save, and F3 is load. It always loads and saves "temp.map" which is the map the game uses. Also, you push the various letter keys to put down different items. You can put in monster generators that way too, but at least on mine, I couldn't see them in the editor, they only showed up when I played it. Weird.

I don't know... Here, I'm looking at the source code...
L toggles "lock" (I don't know what lock is)
* Oh, it may be that if it's on, you continuously place tiles as you move. I think it is.
- and + change current floor/wall tile
* Hold shift with them to jump straight to the first/last tile
ah, here they are:
Q - no object (use to erase)
W - crossbow
E - bonehead generator
R - glob generator
T - fireball spell
Y - inferno spell
U - triple xbow
I - elf sword
O - giant sword
P - soul edge
A - mirror shield
S - tornado spell
D - flaming xbow
F - green thumb spell
G - cloaking spell
H - shield spell
J - healing spell
K - summon spell
TAB - show the whole map at once (zoomed out to pixels)
When you put down a monster generator, it shows up as the platform Boboli starts out on, so it's kind of confusing. Boboli will actually always start in that same spot a few tiles in from the upper left of the map. Also, Sylabulus always starts in the middle I think (since I see no way to place him!), and whenever there are less than I think 25 monsters on the map, Mean Orcs start to arrive (there are no generators for them).
That's all the information I can think of!

That's it! It's not a full-fledged game... the question is, does the mirror shield do anything?

No, boboli was all from scratch and its own thing. The code is very ugly, I'm kind of appalled looking back on it now.
I was thinking about a new Boboli after playing it. What do you think of this idea:
1. You start up the game and it connects to the internet to get a global high score table, and the master list of levels, and a list of who else is playing.
2. You can chat with anyone else who is playing at the same time, but you play your own separate games.
3. The level editor is a major part, everyone can make their own levels and then just click a "Submit" button which sends it to Hamumu for checking, and if it's accepted, it goes into the master list of levels, and so is immediately available for anybody to play.
4. The gameplay works similar to Boboli - it's an RPG where you gain levels and get more powerful and get better and better equipment, but a full game (which consists of one level) takes no more than 30 minutes to complete at the most. So you start with a new character, and within 15 minutes or so, you're at the most powerful you'll ever get. Then you start a new character the next time you play a level.
5. There would be a lot of variation in how you could play, because there would be many character classes, which have very different skills they can pick and choose from, so they can develop differently as they go.
6. So the game would basically be a pure arcade game, where you are competing worldwide for high scores on individual levels. Not really an RPG at all, since the powering up is just done all in one sitting.
7. I hope that makes sense. My keys are sticking, it's hard to type.

chatting to discuss strategies, talk about secret areas, get to know each other, harass, intimidate, mock, joke, and communicate... chatting is wonderful!
I suppose it would have to have some sort of ability to just play offline, just the built-in levels, but that would be relatively useless, since the game is focused on playing all the add-ons you can get and so on. Why would you want to not play online?

Don't look too hard... it's not even on the slate, much less under construction! Just an idea.

How did you get that to work? I've been trying for a while now, only to get frustration.
It asks me how many players then goes back to the dos prompt.

You need to make a shortcut to it, and change the command line of the shortcut to have a 0 at the end, as in "C BOBOLI\A.EXE 0" (that's the number zero).

Actually it's SUPPOSED to be any key, but it really is only Q,W,A, or S - the four keys the game uses to play. Pretty stupid really!
I use Zonealarm. It's way bacon keen.
