SPOILER
What you basically have to do is take out sections of the verticle pipe on the left, so that it connects directly (eliminating the loop) to the horizontal pipe that leads to the room where you want the fire to be lit.
I'd give you specific instructions on how to move each piece, but I can't remember exactely, and I don't have a saved game near it. Hope this helps some.

Warning: Do not read unless you need help in the swamp gas cavern, spoiler ahead.
I'll try my best to give you specific instructions here, it may help to copy this and print it so you can look at it while playing. First, push the pipe segment below the outside corner closest to the save point as far in as you can. Next push the elbow you're touching down a few notches. This enables you to push the rest of the vertical pipe out of the way to the left. At this point you should have the pipe with the gas flowing straight up. Above this is the corner you need and a horizontal pipe, there should be nothing between that and the corner you need to make. Now just walk out, go around to the top and push these two segments to get the gas flowing. Sorry to spoil the puzzle, but it does sound like it's getting to the point where it's no fun.

If you have the fire lit and you step in it, your torch is lit! Look at your inventory and it should be lit. And you should have completed the quest at that moment too. You don't have to actually DO anything to light it. I know I've done it in the demo, so I am sure it's possible!

yipes. This is in the demo? You're not even supposed to be able to earn merit badges in the demo! I don't know how you managed to annoy her, that's not in the demo, and I just tried it to no avail! If you're actually a frog in the demo, it sure is permanent. Heck, you might still be one if you start a new game! Well you've got me completely confused, and definitely the torch should've worked from what you described. Maybe you should email me with further details (like how you annoyed her), and we'll see if we've found yet another disastrous demo bug... this is so depressing.

I too have been turned into a frog, I believe this only works once you have given her the mushrooms, then talking with her a lot will grant you the badge.

Yep, I found it in the code... it's VERY easy to do. Just talk to her anytime after you've gotten your reward for the mushroom quest. I have fixed it and uploaded a fixed version of the demo (there's no problem in the full version). So only the lucky stiffs who have already gotten the demo will get to try out the frog before getting the full version! In the full version, it's hidden much better too.

I figured it out in the full version too! (Then again I was tipped off by finding it in the demo.)

That makes me cry. That was the most interesting secret in the whole game!

Oh, I didn't try until after the mushrooms... I guess I didn't try it because of the Demo glitch, I thought it wouldn't work until after the mushrooms because of the demo. Then when I actually tried it it was impossible. I guess it doesn't matter now, I have the badge, whether I deserve it or not. Probably not.

HA! I am so delighted. The key is in what the merit badge says... you have actually ANNOY her. Hint: it can't be done after you've completed the mushroom quest.

Alright, I confess, I couldn't figure out how to annoy her, she just called me a punk. During this dinner party one family had this 3rd grader, she wanted to try the game. She didn't do too well, but when I checked on her she had gotten turned into a frog! I don't know how or why but I didn't get that, even though I knew where it was. She must have done something illogical I would have never figured out.

if you got the pipes all put together right and there is a fire in that little spot then you should be able to walk right into the fire and finish the quest...as far as i can remember. anyone else know more?

Lisa, I too had this same problem. I just went around and did some other things, including finding the lost girl in the dark. When you go into the cavern it is dark but if you go straight up to her the lantern lights the way out. Just make sure she sticks close to you. After I did that I went back and tried again to light the torch and it worked. I have no idea if one has anything to do with the other.

I'm not sure if these references about a non-lighting torch mean the demo or the full game but here's my two cents Mike. I just got the full game version a few days ago and downloaded the patch right after installing it (and had uninstalled the old demo version prior to this, if that makes any difference). I had saved the cat, checked the inventory to make sure I had the torch (and I did), put the pipes together and you guessed it - my torch wouldn't light! First, I checked the inventory (torch not lit), then I went back to lost cat girl, she said the same thing as after cat rescue, checked the inventory again (torch still showing as being there), went back to SGC to put the pipes together again and BINGO! This time the torch lit. No one else had played the game prior to this, but later that afternoon my son started on it and when he went to light his torch, it worked fine. Maybe this info is helpful.
Also want to say that I just love this game! It's sort of like Kid Mystic and Dr. L. rolled into one game with lots of extras. Definitely worth the bucks! I purposely avoided reading any Looneyland forums before playing it through so that I would be surprised by everything and I was! I do feel like a big cheater though as I got the Lookin' badge within minutes of starting the game-when that screen popped up, it scared the heck out of me! I went back to the main menu checked out the badges area, turned it on and never played anything in the dark. So I'm going to try it Lights Out with none of the other badges I got 1st time and see if I get slaughtered quickly! Great game, Mike, I'm too impressed!

Hurrah, the problem is solved! It required one mouse click to fix. The challenge, of course, was finding out what to click and when. I'll change the patch so it contains this fix (and has a slightly higher version number), but if you don't feel like downloading it, don't bother. Here's the alternate solution:
DON'T STEP ON THE FINAL SPARK UNTIL IT IS LIT!
If you step on it, it gets marked as 'used up', even if it's not lit, so you 'use up' the ability to light the torch, without having a flame there to actually light it.

It's very tricky... the first step I believe is to push IN the straight up piece that is right under the upper left corner of it. Push it all the way in (two spaces). Then you can go inside and push OUT the two pieces that were underneath it. Then go up and around and push down the upper left corner and the horizontal piece next to it, and voila, no more loop, you simply have a pipe that goes up and then turns and goes right (the end result doesn't use most of the pieces).

Justin--
I have tried for days and days to get to the final link of the swamp gas cavern, you know where the final loop is . . . after you kill the swamp creature. I still can't figure out how to connect the logs where there is a "U" and a "C" right there at the end, before you get the key and leave the swamp gas cavern. Can you help me? I beg of you to tell me the secret to get out of the cavern, and to light my torch. I've tried so hard, and tried other combinations of logs. I can get the gas to go straight up, but can't begin to get the gas to go to the right in the cavern. HELP!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!

The trick is to push the horizontal pipe up, leave it in the pipeline long enough so that the area gets well lit up, then quickly push it up further, and run up and around it to push it back down and get the light back on again. After that, you just flip the two switches!

You'll know it when you see it... it's at the very end, all nice and pretty looking, and it's the only one that doesn't have rocks or stuff all the way around it preventing you from touching it.

No, that's the very beginning! What you have to do is make your way through the cavern by lighting the various flames (by pushing the logs into place to let the gas flow to the sparks). So light all the flames in that room, then go back to the save crystal and save your game (so you don't have to do it again!). Now look around the edges of where you can see (since the flames only light up a small area) and see if you can find more pipes you could put together. There are two ways out of that room (besides the way you came in), and you'll have to use both of them before you're done. It's tricky!
