You just have to keep going. Don't slow down. If the guy is in the way, talk to him then keep moving around until he is not blocking the entrance.

Yeah, after you talk to him, you can just do a lap around the lake, and besides keeping you moving so the wolves don't catch you, a bunch of them should get stuck on the stands around the lake.
