can ANYONE tell me how to get DUKE3D to work on windows XP??? PLEASE! It's my favourite dos game of all time!

Actually, it might just be my sound card. It's some crap I've never heard of before. well... It's not crap, it's good. But it isnt in the DUKE3D sound card list.

But it may be XP. I dunno.

Also if anyone has the level editor BUILD, could they send it to me? :D

it's not possible, Code Name 47. you'd need somebody to use the Duke3d source code to make a windows version.
also, Windows XP mutates about ALL dos game sounds, because it's using a crappy emulator of it's own program [sort of].
it's not your sound card.
i can't send Build to you, since i don't have it.
"favourite dos game of all time"...
you do know that before Doom95 that Doom was dos too, don't you...

It worked on windows ME. Anyways, thanks for your help guys. Also TEM, I'm sorry but I believe I have spent more hours in the past years playing Duke Nukem. I used to make levels for it. Mainly because I didn't have the full version of doom until late 2001

Windows XP sucks in various ways, yet it does have some good points. Anyone else agree?

i agree with the "sucks in various ways", but not with the "yet it does have some good points."

I COMPLETELY DISSAGREE.
Windows 98 can't play Doom3. 'nuff said.

i don't even want doom 3, so why would i care. doom 2 is fine enough for me. it's probably even better than doom 3, imso.

doom3 is JUST as good, actually. i have it. and i would know since i had doom2 since it's release at 1994 and the demo of doom 1 at 1992.

did you get a leaked out version of the beta?

also, what you said is only your opinion.

no. i bought it. it's been released already. it was released since August 3rd. [well, in the country i'm in, they release it to the UK at the 13th]
and, also, it's not just my opinion that doom3's awesome. from what i know 20 places already rated it, the lowest score being 8.5 out of 10.

I know the true reason why you don't want doom3. It's because if you tried playing it on your pc, it would overload and smoke will come out of the cd drive!

Dave Hettel

no, that isn't the true reason. the true reason is what i previously said.

not true. it just would say that the computer doesn't meet minimal requirements and cancel installing or not play.

why don't you? It's a brilliant game!

Well I didn't find it that fun, was too dang repetitive.

And yeah, if you want a non-crappy version of Windows that can play Doom 3, just get Windows 2000.

Emperor: Yes, JonoF's port of DN3D does count as "modifying the source code to make a windows version". What's neat about it is that it's modified to work with truecolor textures and MD2 format models. Two of the ongoing community projects are the hi-res texture packs and the model packs.

I can link to those if anybody's interested.

in your opinion, it's a brilliant game. in mine, it's not. don't you realize that your opinion is not the opinion of everybody else?

this isn't the ONLY DN3D port i'm aware of that does this.......... :!:
this sort of thing, Truecolor textures and MD2 format models tend to be things LOTS of ports for games tend to add. i can think of 4-5 of them for doom. i can think of 3 of them for DN3D.
