here's the story
"Agent 00234567 8)
is trying to find the golden cup. all he has is a toothbrush and a pair of jet-propelled fuzzy slippers :!: "

I already have spikes and lava as enemies.

any ideas :?:

EDIT: agent 00234567 is a pumpkin by the way

Erm... What type of game is it? What're you using to create it? You need to post some more things about it than just a simple story.

I've making with game maker 6. It's a bit like Ninja Acadamy except with more switches.

Major Common Sense Error: You quoted someone as saying something they didn't say. Do you have any idea how incredibly rude that is?

Also, you have yet to show us any evidence at all of this game's existence. Without an actual download or even a few screenshots, you might as well be saying "here's a few vague ideas, make my game for me". If you were really seriously committed to creating something with decent depth and engaging gameplay, you would have shown us evidence of that commitment before asking for outside ideas.

Some things I have noticed:

1. "press F1 to display instructions." - There are no instructions, pressing F1 doesn't do anything.
2. The graphics look bad, the pumpkin looks like something from South Park and isn't even animated. At least make him face into the direction he's walking.
3. The jumping engine is really buggy; you can only move while falling, you can jump again while falling and you sometimes get stuck in the air instead of landing on the platform, not to mention the pumpkin's jump height is infinite and he can stick to the ceiling. Oh, and you can also stay in the air forever by pressing against a wall while falling.
4. The 3rd level can only be completed by taking advantage of the "jumping while falling" bug.
5. After the 3rd level, it gives out an error message. Does the game end there or is that a bug? You really shouldn't have a demo end with an error message because the next level doesn't exist, at least try to create some "end of demo"-screen or something.

Sorry if this sounds a little harsh, it was even worse before I edited it >_>

The error is caused by th game being told to go to the next room, when there are no other rooms afterwards. To avoid this, you could do:

http://forums.gamemaker.nl/style_emoticons/default/GM039.gifIf next room exists,
http://forums.gamemaker.nl/style_emoticons/default/GM035.gifGo to next room.
http://forums.gamemaker.nl/style_emoticons/default/GM064.gifElse,
Then do whatever is going to happen when you win.

This way, you only go to the next room if one exists.
Hope this helps!

The shades don't bother me, it's just that the pumpkin graphic looks incredibly plain and doesn't even have an outline or anything. Maybe you could try giving the graphics some outlines and using darker colors on one side of the single parts of the picture and areas of lighter colors on the opposing side, like this:
http://www.duckattack.de/pumpex.PNG
(NOTE: This was done in a few minutes in MS Paint and looks bad due to what appears to be automatic anti-aliasing done by Game Maker.)
While there are many ways of making graphics look better, this is the easiest way.

what I meant was I can't get him to face the way he's moving. :?

You need to make 2 new sprites for that!
1 of him facing left, 1 facing right.

I think he means the Coding, WW.
There's a simple way of doing it:
Key pressed Left Event:
Change sprite to facing left.
Key pressed Right event:
Change sprite to Facing Right.

There you go. Oh, and I forgot to say earlier:
Well done on the game so far. I'm assuming you'd pretty new to Game Maker. You may want to check-out the platform game tutorial available here. (http://www.gamemaker.nl/tutorial.html)
Good luck on your games!
