View Full Version : #25 What's in a name?
Nebro-Gubular SpisBoy
10-30-2005, 12:44 PM
I don't get this. It's supposed to be really easy from what it's rated (although that's just 1 person) and it looks easy, but what IS IT???
I thought of maybe putting "letters" as the answer or some of the letters in "a name" or in "inside" I even tried looking in the side of the picture, but I don't get it. Is this something really obvious that I just can't find?
Jamul
10-30-2005, 12:50 PM
Not that it means much, but anything that has exactly 1 rating, that's my rating that I put in to start it off. So I may be way off on any of them, since I know the answer! If you want to know what people really think, give it a couple days and people will have solved and rated it.

I think I found what you were talking about Nebro.. not sure if its what Banjooie meant, and even if so, I'm not sure how to get an answer from it. Hmm.

well, if you can't get it, link the picture to a few people who don't play the game. Maybe they can help you.

I'm completely clueless on this one too..
Nebro-Gubular SpisBoy

What I did was right click on the picture and put save as
I thought maybe the name of the picture file was the answer. But alas...

10-31-2005, 02:41 PM
This is a multi-step puzzle - the first thing you need to figure out is where to look for information. Then, that information will help you to find the answer. Then, well, you'll see.
MathMan
10-31-2005, 03:32 PM
Well, I thought I had found the information, but I don't have a clue how you'd be able to work anything else out from that, so I probably am looking at the wrong thing altogether :(

I have no clue either. I do crochet, so I can tell you the yarn stuff looks like a granny square, but that's not the answer. I tried lots of crochet terms for what could be inside -- none worked. Sigh. So far 16 players have won it, but I'm not one of them.
Off topic: I find it confusing that Nebro-Gubular SpisBoy is using the avatar that McMonkeyMcBean won in a contest. I keep thinking my old friend MMMB is posting. Sigh.

McMonkeyMcBean won this in a contest?
Hmm... I should use another avatar then. Now which shall I choose?

I solved it, but I have no clue on how to give hints..... (and what did that answer have to do with it? >_>)

so, you need to look inside the puzzle to see what that image really is, then look inside that to know what you should be looking at. then look inside that, and by the time you're done, you'll realize that if you look inside the image closely, you've already seen the answer
crassycatz
03-13-2006, 11:46 AM
i thought it might have been a magic eye picture.... you know those ones that if you squint you can see something coming out of the picture... i tried it but the "look inside" was too vibrant! any one who might have since solved this got any clues?

I thought maybe that the weird second hint you get is some kind of l337 speak, can anyone confirm?

Don't know if your ideas are right or not, but the first part of the answer's just a click away. Hopefully it's not the wrong click.

Think of the title of the puzzle, and maybe consider saving the picture to your computer for reference later on.

I got the first part of the puzzle, but I just can't seem to get anything from that second part...
Most of the hints thus far seem to be directing how to get to the second part...
Gah...
This is making me feel dumb, which is perhaps the point. =P
Maybe I'm just thinking too hard. I seem to be doing the same for Negative Greetings, as even though most people seem to be getting that no problem and even rating it easily, for some reason, I just CAN'T get it. *shrug*

Two parts to the answer: (I think I'm giving away too much... but lets try this. The more you read the more you find. Stop reading when you find it's enoudh already!)
First part - well, I'll try say something not suggested yet... pay no attention to the picture itself, but inside the picture... how do you look into the inside of the picture? You should know more about it! How do you know more about it? Well if I want to know a girl I'd probably want to know her height and weight... but how do I do that when I don't even know her name yet?! I can't just take her out of the bar and ask her... I must ask her right there, right? If only I knew her better I might be able to follow her home!
Second part - So I got to her house, and I was trying to msn my friend telling how I scored... but **** her place is dark! My friends keep having trouble understand what I'm saying! Stupid keyboard must be busted... or is it human error on my behalf?

HURRAAAAHHHHH...
lol im not sure if your help actually worked or just confused me more, but in a spark of inspiration i got it!! man this one was doing my head in!!!
cant believe how relieved i am! and happy!! lol
This one got on my nerves, and now after solving, I looked at my notes and found out that my first remark about it would have been the correct answer.
But I worked on it for like a week. Grind.

Can't understand what was so hard. This puzzle is easy..
NOT!
Why hints don't 'help'?
Because this is 'an easy puzzle'. There is not much to explain. It's the ultimate Aha-erlebniss. Stick to the hints in the puzzle itself and all will be revealed grashopper.

I'm in the same boat as the others who are pulling their hair out. Is the final answer a real word? And shifting fingers is a key to it? And it is all based on five letters found "inside" the picture?

The final answer is a real word. (Great for breakfast BTW) When you get to the second step of the puzzle (the shifting part) there is a word that rhymes with the proper way to shift.
Hope this isn't too much.

I just wanted to say that most of the hints in this thread just confused me and there are a few that still make very little sense to me and I've solved the puzzle! I want to try and help but I'm worried I'll just make things even more confused in an already confusing thread...ah well, you never know what might help someone right? :)
1. There are different ways to get to the second phase of the puzzle. Using "properties" is just one of at least 2 ways. The title is "What's In A Name?" so presumably, you need to figure out some kind of name. Once you do that, you will need to make a minor substitution (which should be obvious) in order to go to the next step.
2. Once you get to the next step, think about the clue in that step and how it could apply to a computer peripheral that has been alluded to directly in this thread in several posts.
Good luck!

I've been puzzling over this one, on and off, for months. I have considered the properties (I get that part) I have tried to shift the word both rightly and not rightly, and still I'm lost.
The hints are confusing. Especially the ones about breakfast. Could someone PM me a HUGE hint or something? ****!

Try to describe it, but be sure not to do it wrong.
Find the posts that suggest doing those, and the phrasing might help you.

Regarding the first part of the puzzle, I really am having no luck with that minor substitution you are talking about. I can see what is buried in the name, and it should take me someplace I'm assuming, but I just can't get it to work. Firefox must think i'm an idiot or something.

This puzzle drove me nuts. I had the answer very early, but the _ was a huge problem. When it didn't like that, Opera added / which makes the result inoperable. I'm guessing Firefox does the same thing based on some people's messages. Had I been using a dumber browser the answer would have been unsullied, albeit incomprehensible to IE6, and I would have made the proper adjustment and went on my way. As it turned out, I spent two hours on it, not realizing the error, when I had the answer in just a few seconds.
My hint: Look over the names (not titles) of a few of the other puzzles and figure out why this one is different.
And then, of course, don't make the mistake I made.
I can't get the somewhere else to work either can anyone verify that it is still up?
I think part of the puzzle is posting a " I can't do it " and then it magically works. LOL
