Do it the long way man!
It may take a while but not if you use your head. Think logically...
If the words were :
inventer, of, the, person, man, banana, telephone
Think logically, it wouldn't be inventor of the banana now would it?
Do you kind of get what i'm trying to say...
USE GOOGLE! and do it the long way!

It's not, sadly. I need help too. Is it like a combonation lock? Different combonations?

I don't really get it...how do we get the numbers to go together? How do we figure out the combination with the words? I'm stumped!

Ok, so I have five types of word, with four in three types, three in one type and one in the last type. I can make a lot of sentences with these, but I have no idea which will help. Also no idea what the numbers refer to.

i thought mabe the numbers have to do with degrees in a circle or angles, does that make sense? i still have no idea what the heck the answer is though
I only recently solved this one, and I admit I still don't know what the significance of the numbers is. You can pretty much figure out what to Google based on what you think would give a single clear answer.

So far I haven't heard of anybody who has solved this using the numbers. Ignore the numbers, focus on the words. figure out which words make a notable and interesting phrase, and then google it.
derick's clue is the best so far, i think.

There was another post in a different thread about this problem that says that the numbers can't be angles because the numbers are in multiples of 15 while the words are in 22.5 degree angles. This may be throwing people off.. I don't think that statement means the numbers are not angles.

I didn't say that the numbers weren't angles, just that they didn't line up with the words directly due to the differences in the increments. I think they probably are angles, I just can't figure out what they have to do with the words yet. Is there anyone who has actually solved this one without random googling of combinations of words?

Yes, I've solved it without random googling. Oxygenthief was on the right track with his earlier post.

I also solved it without random googling.. Fripp, you are on the right track, but in this case precision is not necessarily a virtue.

Although I did not use the numbers, I don't think 'random googling' is a fair way to classify how it can be done without them. As was hinted earlier in this post - if you actually look at all the words - there are not too many ways they can be arranged to come up with something that would be worthwhile googling.. I googled exactly twice.

first if anything I would say that 165 seems like a wrong number... I haven't been able to solve this puzzle yet but I've tried from different starting points... for the only combination that remotely seemed to refer to an answer, google didnt' give me any. I'm thinking it's all the censoring and stuff...
Man, it's cracking my head! I just need a starting point!

It's a roundabout, right? Just pick a direction, and off you go spinning around. But stop once in a while to read out a word.
Am I wrong to think the answer must be "roundabout" that year in history ?

The numbers are important, mostly a time saver. Pilots would know what to do once they figured out where to start and where to go!
J
Unfortunately I'm no pilot, and I'm really lost here. Tried so many things already, but none of the answers I came up with are correct.
I made sentences, queries, found names, planes, trains and automobiles or whatever. I entered everything I could think of, but I obviously think wrong. Please Help.

start at the red circle and follow the lines around until you find an invention. Use Google to find the inventor.

I figured out the answer to this one without using the numbers, but I'd really like to know how I should have solved it. Could someone PM me the way this is supposed to be done?
Thanks

I couldn't help but reply on this one after thinking about it for some time...
This one CAN be solved with the numbers... Two points I would make though:
1. For the starting point, think back to high school math... Where is 0 degrees? It's not the same as with a compass heading.
2. [Removed spoiler!]
You will get a phrase, in the correct order, and if you Google that phrase one of the answers that pops up will have the solution in it... You won't even have to visit the page.

Believe it or not I looked at the words, came up with a sentence, googled it and it worked.
Having done that I worked out what the numbers mean.
So yes the numbers do mean something - but I only worked out what when I already had the sentence.
One thing that is not clear - is that the words are not evenly spaced around the circle!

I used the suggestion by Rebes of where 0 was. From there I followed the numbers to solve this puzzle.
Once I had a sentence I Googled it and had the answer in the page summaries.

Do you go around more than once to get it? Also, I tried pulling words that fit the degree locations acound the circle but none made sense... Anyone PM me with some hints?

Ok, I guess my issue is what 0 is (high school was a while ago) do the numbers stack (move 60 degrees, then 90 from the 60 degree mark or just 60 from 0 then 90 from 0, etc.). Clockwise or counter clockwise?

that really was a good suggestion :D always start from 0

Yes, timbo, the numbers "stack". Always start anew, and try spinning in both directions. (See what you get one direction; if it's a bunch of gibberish, try the other) Also, I found it helpful to translate the numbers into how many words I need to skip to get to the next one. Hope this helps!
PS-I'm dumb on most of these so I'm patting myself on the back for a moment on this one :-D
