Yeah, the last line doesn't make sense like the others do. Well not so much make sense as it doesn't form words.

The whole thing is one sentence.

Try looking for something episodic which has the two names mentioned in the sentence.

Finally got this one - one of the words in the phrase was seriously throwing off my search efforts. Once I took that word out of the search I got it almost immediately.

Well, I think I have the right place to look, but can't seem to narrow it down to the specific episode number.

Well, I think I have the right place to look, but can't seem to narrow it down to the specific episode number.

There is only one episode with the two names involved. However, 'episode number' isn't precisely what most sites call the reference you need.

Thought that might be the case. Now back to figuruing out what I'm missing on blacker box.

Am I way off target looking for episode numbers for a very popular TV show?

You're on target. Just note a couple posts back where episode number might not be the correct reference.

I got a weird not-sentence with vegetables and ... I don't understand. The first two words sort of make sense in relation to the title, but overall I'm stuck.

Edit: okay, I know who one of the persons mentioned is (there are two si?) and how "episode" might come into play, but no luck with the vegetable or any other lines for that matter.

Another edit: I am pretty sure I now have two people, and an episode, but the number doesn't work. I also know that "episode number isn't exactly correct", so now I duno. The vegetable.... gah. Also, does music still have something to do with it or was that just the means of getting the words?

I hope this post isn't too dumb :O

I'm changing the words of what the puzzle asks for... I have seen it described as an episode number almost everywhere, but suddenly when I was typing in the question to ask what else it is called, it immediately came to me, and sure enough, "production code" seems to be the more popular term.

I'm pretty sure I have the show. And the first line, but I can't seem to put this all together.

Anyone want to PM me with some assistance?

Does this show possibly have, uh, off color characters (both literally and figuratively)?

This one is giving me brain freeze. I'm pretty sure I deciphered it correctly - but is this referring to something that people outside of America are going to recognise? I get the name and I get the item and I get what I'm supposed to find out, but I'm not having any luck. If someone could PM some kind of whopper hint to me I'd much appreciate it.

:? Me jealous, you guys gets words.
I only think of The sound of Music and Maria singing "do a deer a female deer". And then it all turns black.

I'm pretty sure that people outside the US will be able to get this one (e.g. if they can do any of the other puzzles on Dumb, there's no langauge barrier). Music is a universal language, and once you've decoded it, I think a wikipedia search works better than googler here.

Nup, this is doable by us guys in the UK. The show is popular over here too.

When I decoded the message, I got nothing, but a few random words and some gobblygook at the end. What am I missing?

I did not at first recognize all the words after decoding. You may want to look up each string of letters to see if it is a word. In fact there are two words that are the key to solving the puzzle. Don't worry about the vegetable.

Aha!!! Finally. It's amazing what googling the exact info you have will yield. Finally figured out what the production code meant. Thanks for the help.

If you do not read music (like say me) I suggest you look for the Clef Notes version for help.

My my. This is a tricky one indeed.

*is trying to make this a VALID hint but not a really STRONG one*

To those of you who were stuck for many hours like I was: Let me tell you that this is a rather dirty puzzle. I don't mean that it is raunchy--the natural first interpretation of the musical notes will certainly get you in the right direction for the answer, but figuring out the real reference without hints is very tough unless you're either a diehard fan of the genre (count me out!) or get extremely lucky in your guesses at second interpretation. For some reason, I was hunting for hours for a reference to a very old Mother Goose rhyme; then I was digging through names of performers of old folk songs. At one point, I was even looking in the oldest book ever printed, but alas, I wouldn't find anything in any of these places--no matter how I looked.

If you're stuck on the meanings of one of the words, don't forget to look up synonyms! I actually already knew all the relevant meanings of the words here already, but since I was unfamiliar with the KEY reference (like in 'Multipass,' 'This One Is Bacon,' etc.) I was hopeless to understand a message that sat right in my face until I consorted with others more familiar. (The biggest hint as to the kind of reference you need is in the text 'Production code, please.'--as generic as it sounds, there are only a few kinds of things in the world that are individually identified with something by that name.) The reference really isn't that old at all!

I'd love it if ole Creampuff-Head (not lovin' the moustache) could give his take on what his intentions were with getting to the point of recognizing these references. Making something that is difficult to Google is one thing, but really, are we supposed to be collaborating like this? Was that intended as part of the game, or it meant more as a tool of last resort? ...Guess I just feel guilty for needing hints, hehe...
