Why can I not figure it out? I feel like Ive tried everything, even making coordinates and mapping them on Google. Any hints?!

Try completing the title.
If you've done that already.. well, just try looking at the problem in a different way.

i know the completion of the title but what does that have to do with the rest of the picture and what exactly is the answer? is it a name or number?

Yeah thats my problem too

MathMan laid out a good hint there. Also, the items in the picture may be of better use than their PC based equivelant.

I've got the first piece of the puzzle, thanks to earlier hints. Can anyone guide me on the angle to approach the answer to the question?

I'm not sure there are many more hints that could be provided without giving away the answer. Though if you're using the instrument and not the pc, you're getting off on the right foot.
ive got the answer from the image, just dont know who it applies to,
any clues on this ?

A Goggle search should give you the answer in world record time.

After understanding the title, the image, the question... it took me quite some time to google the answer.

(haven't solved it yet)
What I did wasn't any math, but changing the way I look at it. Am I on the right track?
Answer does not make sense to me, either...

Remember, Dumb often challenges you to look at things from different angles. Also, I mentioned earlier, the original tool and not the pc equivelant help here. Think digital clock.

Heh, just got it. A bit tricky there. =)
Easy once I knew what I had to do though.

the more i google for the answer, the more disgruntled i get! I know what to do with the numbers, I know what the question is asking for, but the answer i keep getting is not accepted! Help!

For name questions, the answer is the last name, not mashing together first and last or anything like that (though that is accepted on some, and some even accept first names, but the last name is ALWAYS accepted).

The numbers are not the clue you need. This may be too much of a hint. If so, my apologies to Jamul. I'll hide it too.
Jamul did decide to yank it, after some deliberation. Just a bit too much.
Even with the question in front of me it took me ages to find WHO.
This game indeed makes me feel dumb.

I finished the first and second parts of the puzzle and determined who I was going out to look for. I went to the most widely accepted source for such matters but the last name of the person in question does not work.
I am assuming that the question "Who had the greatest of all?" means the person could be dead. Is this correct?

Ah, I guess you went to the wrong place.
Try Guinness World Records.

AtkinsSJ, I went there and knew what I was looking for and it STILL took me awhile to find it, the search function there does not work very well.

Im still confused with everyone telling people to go in different directions.
After I complete the title, what do I do to the #'s with the thing I just got?

what the... this name keeps turning up as the biggest but it doesnt work... why not?
doggonnit
03-30-2006, 03:42 PM
Ok, got it, but I have a problem with it.
The record holder is not actually the record holder any more, only when he was living. Now that he is dead, he actually trails the other name that I kept trying to input. GRRR!

Man, for the longest time I had the wrong person... I tried every part of his name and wouldn't work. Stupid website gave me the wrong impression that he is the one... but nooo it has to be an actor! (I hope that's not giving too much... just doesnt' want anyone to follow my footsteps)

As much as I've been enjoying this place, I have to call shenanigans on this one. There's more than one correct answer to the question at hand, and according to the phrasing of the question, "Who had the greatest of all?" the correct answer isn't the solution to the puzzle. The person you've all tried and failed with was "greater" than the asked-for solution by a wide margin, which is why a lot of us had to dig way deeper than others to find the solution.
If that's not a good enough reason, there's the fact that the answer to this puzzle should change with the passing of the "greatest", as long as we're actually looking for the "greatest living". Know what I mean?
I'm sorry, this gave me a headache, too. It's hard to state my case without saying too much (or at least saying anything that hasn't already been said).

I'm with chudsosoft on this. Since the puzzle can accept multiple answers anyway, might as well accept either name, especially since they're both all gone now anyway.
Jamul
04-08-2006, 07:51 AM
When I google, I only get the answer that it accepts... I don't have any idea what you guys are talking about! Could somebody PM with some details?
Jamul
04-08-2006, 04:52 PM
Okay, I have added another possible answer, which is, according to all available data, the actual right answer... but not the one that prominent sources give, so both are accepted (there's a similar pair of possibilities on the Tangled Web puzzle - one actual, the other 'common knowledge'. For bonus fun, try to find both answers to both! Whee!).

07734,
The question asks for Who. I have to tread lightly or I will give away the answer... better step back from this one a bit.

Sorry about necroing, but it seems okay here.
I have the completed title, and the translation of the numbers, but I can't do what the title tells me to do that will eventually give the answer.

Did you fix the translation's typo? It's missing a letter in the first word.

I don't get it... if I have the right title, by what number am I supposed to [blank]?
Coolguy
10-08-2007, 07:01 PM
Maybe you can change the numbers to turn them into one number.
