what exactly is your problem ?

Well, I know that I feel like a fool.

I've got a listing of the appropriate point values, and a listing of contenders for the appropriate competition. But none of the contenders has that final score. I saw someone here say that although no-one had that score, the person with the closest score was the correct answer for the puzzle, but I've tried quite a few names and none of them seem to be working.

Can anyone drop me a hint? Maybe let me in on this "short way around" or "brute force" way to get the answer?

Skater math involves more than simple addition... you need to find the complete set of rules!

complete set of rules to what?

Man, I finally got it by just working my way down the list.

I hope I'm not giving too much away here, but I'm just really annoyed that not only does the answer seem to be incorrect, but that I even read a comment by the puzzle maker that he/she is upset because so many people seemed to solve this one by just going down the list.

If you have names to try, that's the list I'm talking about.

No amount of google fu would help me trying to calculate the final score. Grrr. Still got it, but one of those "I don't feel like I really achieved anything by getting this right" ones.

Sorry, but that puzzle is incredibly dodgy. The answer to the skater formula does not in any way correspond to the puzzle answer. But after solving it, check your Thesaurus. Ditch the first letter from the answer and pretty soon you'll come across a word for the kind of person you feel like.

You are wrong, Dahlia. The correct answer to the formula is an exact match for the correct skater's score.

I have to say I am pretty positive I did the math correctly for the score and I too found it didnt quite match the score the actual answer had ... Oh well.

Jamul: I have solved the puzzle but only by using brute force, despite having (at least, as far as I could determine) all the correct information. Could you PM me and tell me the resources I *should* have been using?

UPDATE: Jamul has kindly filled me in on just how stupid I am. I (and I'll submit most others) have been using the correct resources, but have been overlooking a key component. I guess I'll just have to go back the way I came.

olayman: The background is an important clue. In the context of skating, what could possibly have a sequel?

Then you probably need some sort of guide.

i cant find one of those either!

I, too, guessed. But, I have no idea why the correct answer was the correct answer.

Google.

This is a puzzle that requires you to combine information from the real and the virtual worlds. I'm guessing that Olayman is searching for real world information that is only available in the virtual one.

Knowing what the background image is, is the key to finding the guide you are searching for.

Even with all of that, there is an unclear bit of multiplication that you will need to figure out to reach the correct answer.

i did the same "read list" idea. i stopped at the rite answer, went to the bottom and read up instead of just getting the rite answer lol=D.

THIS IS REAL EASY.(this is what i did, and probably the best way). JUST GOOGLE THE STATEMENT IN BLACK ' NORTH AMERICAN FINAL VERT 2004 ' AND OFCOURSE YOU WILL FIND THE PLACE TO FIND ALL THOSE NAMES.. WELL ITS OBVIOUS JUST TO GO AND TRY ALL OF THEM. i just did it in a matter of like.. 10 minutes??

Jamul

You can do that of course, but that's not solving the puzzle AT ALL. If you want to feel like you have accomplished something, I'd suggest working out all the clues instead!

GameFAQs may help.

I still had to guess, but I had a range of +-300 points or so... it's easier than the entire list.
There must have been something I missed in the combo scoring.

Thats true and it is to work indeed.

Well just need to concentrate and work a bit...

and we are done with it.

Heh heh .. one of Turgid Dahlia's comments helped me to home in on the right name from the list straight away
