It's probably the best current-generation game made so far. I have played about 15 hours of Skyrim on a single file, and I need to express how much I enjoy it.
Good points: *The combat is balanced and fun, albeit slower if you use a heavy weapon *Monster and item leveling is done properly this time around *Voice acting is miles better, with a variety of voice actors and better expression in some characters *The world looks up-to-date and gorgeous even on integrated graphics *Animations are improved *The variety of art assets is mind-blowing for such a small install *Now there are much more stray quests that aren't part of a faction than in TES III or IV *All the dungeons I've been in actually ARE unique in some way *I spent over an hour a single dungeon doing a quest *Hybrid classes are much easier to play than in previous titles *There are procedurally-generated quests and random encounters *Looting dungeons, selling what you looted, and then buying better items is balanced *The environments are large enough and have enough variety to keep you interested *Three autosaves compensate for any glitches or miscellaneous troubles you may run in to *No crashes, excellent performance for a Bethesda game *Main quest is actually really fun *Dungeons are better designed *More clutter and interesting interiors Bad points: *Every few hours you'll run in to a major glitch, although I've always been able to fix them by looking online or loading a previous save *If you die after travelling a long distance without quicksaving or entering a loading screen, you still have to load your last autosave 10/10, would play again. |

I got this on Friday as soon as I could, had it pre-ordered since July. It is the main reason I haven't been on the Internet all weekend.
Everything about this game is awesome. Aside from a couple bugs I've ran into, this has been the best game I've ever experienced. Combat is very balanced and the shouts add another layer of strategy to battles. The ability to quickly switch between spells/weapons/equipment via the Favorites menu is also a nice addition. The graphics are stunning even for an Elder Scrolls game. I remember being blown away by the graphics in Oblivion, but Skyrim takes it to a whole new level. Everything seems more fluid and realistic. Dialogue is much nicer and NPCs realistically react to your actions. I really like the new level up system as well. It's much easier to only have to choose between Health, Magicka, and Stanima when you level up instead of attributes. Perks give much more customization to your character. Before I could master Destruction magic. Now though, not only can I master Destruction, but also specialize in a certain area of Destruction magic. I also like the fact that weapons are now categorized into One-handed and Two-handed instead of Blade and Blunt. In Oblivion, I would have a one-handed Blade and a one-handed Blunt weapon on my hotbar, and would switch between the two depending on the enemy (Blunt vs. Heavy Armor, Blade vs. Light/No armor). It was frustrating, however, since my weapon skills improved slower due to using two different types of weapons. In Skyrim, however, the two are combined. Since I don't use two-handed weapons, that lets me concentrate on just one weapon skill. I also like the dragons. Dragons are cool.

My biggest gripe about the game so far is that the menus feel like they were (and they probably were) designed for a console and then ported to the PC, as opposed to Oblivion's which felt much more natural on the PC. Other than that, pretty much fantastic.

I'd recommend getting a wired Xbox 360 controller to play this game. It just makes the combat feel better.
