 I can't believe I've been ripping my hair out on this one for 2 days, and my husband came in and looked at the puzzle. He basically blinked two or 3 times and just hit the answer on the keyboard. I felt sooooooooo stupid!!!!

i just figured it out, i have a really funny story too.... bbut i cant tell you it without spoiling the answer
 anyways, as stated, google marine first class (or whatever it was) once you see its connection with the two side clues, the answer is obvious.
