I have the store-bought version of Kid Mystic from eGames. Problem is, my anti-virus keeps detecting everything on the disc and from the installs as viruses and won't let me play the game (keeps quarantining all the files).
Is there any way I can fix this, or maybe get a non-eGames install? Thanks.

Well, the first thing you should try is to update your antivirus definitions. That could be (probably is!) a false positive, and they may have fixed it since. If you are up-to-date and it still won't let you run it, you can definitely disable your antivirus and run anything you please! The downside is, there's a possibility that it IS a virus. I seriously doubt that, but I'm not going to take responsibility if your computer explodes. That option is at your own risk.
You could also contact eGames support about it and see if they have a solution. |

Or buy the updated version from this site, that would work too...

Well, eGames didn't reply, but in the mean time, I managed to get it temporarily working. As long as it's constantly running, it doesn't get deleted, so I just left it running for a few days until I beat it. ^_^
Looking around the web, apparently a bunch of old eGames stuff has false positives. In the future though, if I feel desperate enough, do you think it would be possible for me to maybe send the disc to you (Jamul) through the mail as proof of purchase and you send me a download link? I'd rather not buy it twice. Just an idea. Thanks again!

Sorry, they're separate products (and mine is way awesomer!). I'd lose a lot of money trading mine for theirs.

Ah, ok, that makes sense. Looks like I'll be waiting for the next sale.

I like to get rid of Conducent TimeSink with Spybot - Search & Destroy. There should be a process called TSADBOT.exe that you must terminate with a program like Windows Task Manager or TuneUp Utilities. After TSADBOT.exe is gone, you should be able to delete the TSAD.dll file.
Somehow, last time I installed the eGames Kid Mystic it couldn't install the adware, even when I collected all the Armageddon Sword pieces. eGames may have a TimeSink Uninstaller on their website, but the link seems to be outdated as I can't download it. Every time I tried to run TSUninstaller.exe or whatever it's called, it always returns "No AppName specified". Buying the eGames version and asking for the Hamumu-published version for free (or even a discount for that matter)? I think that's too much to ask for! |

Jamul's version of Kid Mystic is way better than the eGames' version. It has more features and is overall a lot better. Although there have been some major changes, some people who had that old game like it better, it is an amazing game! I would strongly reccomend you purchase this game.

Re: Egames 'Virus' Problems
Maybe sometime next month (hopefully!) I'll consider paying 4X the price for the re-release, which I think is harder since they added those Crazy Bushes that gang up on you and drain your HP in a matter of seconds. The water effects were updated too, and there's also even an options menu!

Lorenzo is correct. Older eGames releases are bundled with adware/spyware known as TSAdBot.exe, which to my knowledge causes advertisements to pop up here and there after you finish playing a game. eGames was notorious for bundling this little bot in all their CD releases during the late 90s and early 00s.
The Hamumu Software version of Kid Mystic is a vast improvement over the older, eGames version, and well worth its marked price. Keep the eGames version as a little souvenir from the 90s, and play the Hamumu Software version, which is everything the eGames version is and so much more.

Yes, that's true. I'm not very knowledgeable on the publishing game so I didn't know how that whole dealio worked. Now I absolutely understand Jamul's POV.
