I've recently started using the wonderful Digiex Minecraft launcher (google it, first link) instead of MCNostolgia. Why? Because:

To Switch your MC version with MCNostolgia:
1. Delete the bin folder in .minecraft.
2. Run Minecraft.
3. Let it update, then exit minecraft.
4. Open MCNost. Press enter.
5. Look for a version number, type it in.
6. press enter, let it load, exit mcnost, open minecraft.
7. ..?
8. Profit!

To Switch your MC version with the much better Digiex:
1. Open up Digiex.
2. It looks like the regular minecraft launcher except there's a dropdown box under the password box. Choose a version of minecraft from that dropdown box.
3. Press log-in.
4. ..?
5. Profit!

With Digiex, you technically start out just with 'minecraft.jar' in the dropdown box, which is the up-to-date MC version.
But where it would originally have Notch's Blog posts about MC versions, it would show the versions of the Digiex client (with a choice to switch to notch's blog) and you scroll down a bit and click 'show all'. It'll have links to every minecraft version. you click one, and it starts downloading. once it's done downloading, you go to the dropdown box and it's there.
Anyway, it's much better.

I recently started using MagicLauncher. What's nice about it is that it lets you pick which mods to run with the game, both internal and external, along with the version to run, and also runs a check on all mods to see if they'll work correctly with the specified features. You can also set how much RAM to run with.

It's been living on 1.1 for a while, but I got it updated to 1.2.3 today finally, so that should bring things back up. Got a lot of fun plans.

Got a little arena match thing here

Iron Golem Survival
Min. 2 players
coords 463,79,6
Players spawn in the center, wearing iron armor, and holding a single Instant Health II potion. An Iron Golem spawns on a random Circle Stone Brick every 30 seconds, first one coming in at 15 seconds. The player to survive the longest wins the match.
(the arena should float above the ocean in game)

Built some arenas.

Spleef Arena:

Players start on the colored wool. All wool is breakable with a single punch. Last player to fall off the wool wins.

Iron Tower: Claustrophobia

Players start on the pressure plates at the bottom. The chests next to them contain wooden swords enchanted with knockback. Players climb the tower and attack each other. Last player to die wins. To add more than 2 players, copy the tower and add a single line bridge.

Skydiving:

Players start at the temple-like structure at the top. If a player hits any obstacle, they are teleported to the top. The first player to the bottom wins. With more than 2 players, the obstacles should be copied for each side.

Obstacle Course:

Players start on the stone pressure plates and race towards the end of the track. The first player who activates the enchanting alter wins. Both levers start in the up position.

The arenas are all visible at (176, 123).

I don't even understand a statement like that. There are jungles all over the survival map. If you don't like the area then it's fine if you go far away on the map, and I'm sure you can find a ton of jungles. I did, they're not even very far away. Nobody is forcing you to play on Platycraft, either. If you don't enjoy it, find another server before suggesting we wipe 2 or so years of everyone's hard work. ಠ_ಠ

I've got to dash to bed so I don't have time to essaycraft, but guess what? The Grand Arena is finally functional! It's only got one game so far, but more will be added regularly.

You can do alot in 4 months, if you want to rebuild every single little thing me and everyone else did, gather all the resources we have and find future building sites for us, please reset the server.

I may or may not have started hiding chests containing some items, and the items may or may not be worth claiming! They're all in areas around player-built structures, so don't expect to find any of them too far away from the spawn.

Really high field of view, I believe.

With the help of Redbone and HappyStikBeaver I cleaned up a bunch of the broken structures and tunnels around the creative spawn so it looks nicer - anything that seemed out of place was moved a small distance away and a few things like the minecart track station were simply removed due to how broken they were.

They're all accessible without digging, and there's cases where digging for them would mean griefing player-made structures. :P
