Well, I'll be gone from now until about 80-something hours later on a school camp, as an 1850's goldminer. So, I'll be lurking on the mafia thread, unfortunately.

There was a gold rush in lots of newly-discovered countries. It's called the 'Quickly populate them by telling people "There's gold in them thar hills!" then sniggering in a corner' plan. It proved highly successful.
