Looking for moderators!

Hamumu is looking for people to moderate the forum and chat. The volume of posts has just been increasing and increasing, and at this point I'm spending half my day reading forum threads, and it's not very productive.

So I'd like your help! The job will not be fun, and it does not pay. Don't sign up because you want the thrill of power over others. Overmoderating will get you fired in seconds, as will being a jerk. I'm just looking for people who care like I do about the quality and tone of the forum and want to help make sure it stays safe, fun, and friendly.

Let me repeat: it won't be fun! It's not going to be an awful experience, but it just means doing work for no reward, not lording power over others. You won't get to tell people what to do, only delete and edit posts quietly.

I'm not looking for you to spend all your time carefully examining things. I just want several people doing it, so that they just wipe out profanity and rudeness along the way as they are reading the forums anyway.

I want people who have been around a long time and know what Hamumu is about, and who read the forums very often.

If you want to sign up to moderate a specific forum, or several, instead of the whole place, that is okay too.

I'm looking for maturity, kindness, a lack of needing to be moderated yourself, a shared philosophy of what family-friendly means, a daily addiction to this forum, and a personal interest in the community. I hope to find people who want to do this for the sake of having it done, not people hoping to get a reward.

I don't want a whole lot of people, and I don't know exactly what criteria I am looking for in the hiring process. But send me an email if you'd like to give it a try, and let me warn you that the content of that email (and your entire past history here - I remember all!!) will be the test of whether I want to hire you!

And a warning: Hamumu is of course the ultimate Family-Friendly place... but as a moderator, it'll be your job to see it all before it gets cleaned up. You have to be okay seeing a whole lot of profanity and bad behavior if you want to take this job. You will be seeing it daily. You will sometimes see much more horrible things too.

Can you give us an idea of what to include in the email?

Just tell me you want to do it, and why. How you go about that could get you the job or cost you, who knows?! Like I said, I don't know what criteria I am looking for, so it will be a surprise to everyone.

I'm surprised more people haven't posted in here! I thought many wanted an opportunity like this. EDIT: Of course, that doesn't necessarily reflect how many emails have been sent, and it's only been an 1 1/2 or so.

I'd try to apply if I wasn't so busy with college and if I sometimes didn't needed to be moderated myself [I guess ].

Good luck to anybody who's trying to get a spot themselves. Also, I was wondering when anybody is going to be chosen or something of the sort. Not to rush you or anything, because people need to send in their applications, and then you need to read them and narrow it down and all, and you've probably got other things to do. Just a rough estimate would be nice.

Meh, I would like to become a moderator, but I am 13 years old, so in my opinion it would be best for more mature people to become instead. Also, it would be good if people at different timezones joined because I sometimes see spambots staying for 5+ hours

Is there already some sort of "blacklist" for people who shouldn't even bother sending an email because they won't be accepted? I'm 101% certain I'd be on that list, I'd just like to have it confirmed officially.

I'm probably not gonna get the job, but I'd love to have it. I know its not fun, and I don't get paid, but I'm here usually 3 hours a day, I'm usually not around the Games forums, but I could easily mod the TM, GB and Mafia fora. I'll send an email.

Is it ok to vote? Maybe there should be a thread to chose between the candidates, and everyone could vote on the ones Jamul thinks would fit. (if there are multiple choices, that is)

P.S. It'd be ironic if someone's post had to be deleted in this thread.

if voting was done then votes could be biased, people voting for their friends and whatnot, and people would be sad if they didn't get into the poll. if Jamul decides independently who gets the position(s) then the people who didn't get wont know if they were close to getting the job or if their application was horrible, which is far better... ignorance is bliss.

I would apply, but I doubt I'd be on enough to justify my being moderator, so I'll leave it to those who would be better. Interestingly enough, someone I know started GMing when he was around 14... For quite a few games. (He's in my class at college)
