I much prefer ANZAC day.

For those not in the know, ANZAC day, or the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps day for those who want to know, is the dedication to the 10,700 odd ANZAC troops that were killed at the Gallipoli campaign. The new song by Midnight Youth, named "21 guns", is related to the 21 gun salute to commemorate this day.

So what is armistice? I am not American, obviously, and don't know what it is.

We call it Remembrance Day here in Canada. I would be fine with it, except for the boring school assemblies. Good thing that I am sick and don't have to sit through one...

It's more commonly called Veterans day. It's basically a holiday to respect our Veterans and solders who died in various wars. It's also a day off for all the post offices and banks.

Armistice day is actually a lot more than american. On the 11th second of the 11th minute of the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month a treaty was signed to end WW1 and so they thought at the time all wars.

Think about the people who gave their lives. Or the people who had to sit through 2, like me.

A message to all veterans, as well as those currently serving...

Thank you for all you've done for your country. You have taken on the responsibility that many of us do not want, or are afraid of. Your actions will inspire many others in the future, and someday, your actions will have helped humanity to reach a lasting peace, a time where armies will not be needed, where wars will become obsolete.

I do not support the wars in Afganistan and Iraq, but I support all Americans, no matter where they may be, and wish all of my countrymen currently serving in the Armed Forces the best. May you all come home safely.

To all those who are serving or who have served, not just from America but from all over the world...

"The Unknown Soilder"
By Billy Rose

There's a graveyard near the White House
Where the Unknown Soldier lies,
And the flowers there are sprinkled
With the tears from mother's eyes.

I stood there not so long ago
With roses for the brave,
And suddenly I heard a voice
Speak from out the grave:

"I am the Unknown Soldier,"
The spirit voice began,
"And I think I have the right
To ask some questions man to man.

"Are my buddies taken care of?
Was their victory so sweet?
Is that big reward you offered
Selling pencils on the street?

"Did they really win the freedom
They battled to achieve?
Do you still respect that Croix de Guerre
Above that empty sleeve?

"Does a gold star in the window
Now mean anything at all?
I wonder how my old girl feels
When she hears a bugle call.

"And that baby who sang
'Hello, Central, give me no man
Can they replace her daddy
With a military band?

"I wonder if the profiteers
Have satisfied their greed?
I wonder if a soldier's mother
Ever is in need?

"I wonder if the kings, who planned it all
Are really satisfied?
They played their game of checkers
And eleven million died.

"I am the Unknown Soldier
And maybe I died in vain,
But if I were alive and my country called,
I'd do it all over again."

Everybody who has served or is serving, thank you.
