Trying to open an attachment file that is file.dat
won't open and computer pops up box, says 'file doen not have a program associated with it'. So what di i need to gry- get. Cat is helping me type sgin.

Do you know what program ordinarily opens, uses, or creates that file?

"dat" is not likely to be anything you can use. That extension doesn't really mean anything, but many many programmers use it to mean "data" - just a file full of stuff their program needs to run. So there's no way to know what it's for, or what uses it... unless of course it says in the email, which is what would make sense!
