Indie Buskers, Busking Again! 01:59 PM -- Wed October 31, 2012

Hey everybody! The Indie Buskers are back with another buskin' good time! If you don't have any idea what I'm talking about, it's an event where a bunch of game jammers take 48 hours to craft games based on your ideas, livestreaming the whole thing, and you can toss some money into the hat as you watch, which is much better than a normal busker performance - you actually get copies of all the games for your money!

Visit Indie Buskers for more info. Visit Reddit.com/r/indiebuskers to submit your own ideas, and vote on which ones we should do (requires a Reddit account. Just upvote the ideas you like best!).

The whole event starts in just under 2 days from now (Friday morning my time), so don't miss out on the amazing wonderment that is Hamumu livestreaming game development. And all the other people doing it too.

Oh yeah, I didn't mention that - I'm one of the buskers this time!! Come check it out!

Sleepless Hollow Update! 10:44 AM -- Wed October 31, 2012

SpaceManiac has been at it again! If you are an owner of Sleepless Hollow, head on over to your My Downloads page and get the new beta version. It of course modernizes the color code so it shouldn't require any tricks on Windows Vista+, and it includes some nice editing features that are new. It also includes Blackduck and Moltanem's BHE from last year (two years ago?), the Sleepiest Hollow alternative world. You'll have to do some file copying and moving to actually play that though, as Sleepless Hollow wasn't exactly designed for add-on worlds. What else is new? Good question! I haven't found out yet because I wanted to throw this up quickly to greet you on Halloween! I'll have more info later.

And remember, this is a beta edition, this is the first public test at all, so give it a go and let us know on the forums if you encounter any trouble.

The Amazing Testing Cooperative 01:46 PM -- Sat October 20, 2012

The tagline for Dropbox is "Simplify Your Life", and that is exactly what I intend to use it for. For quite a while, I have failed to test addons, and that's not cool to you guys. But now, once I finally got the technology set up to make it possible to do again (for a very long time, I actually couldn't do it, because I had lost a bunch of key files between computer moves), I've discovered that it's one more of the many things getting in the way of me actually making games! I'm trying to do all I can to focus entirely on making games to combat extreme burnout syndrome, so this is one key step.

So that's where I turn to you, the potential future members of The Amazing Testing Cooperative! I've created a Dropbox folder (it's free to join and really really useful!) where I put the Supreme (and LL2) addons that are sent to me, and I leave it entirely in your hands. Anybody who wants to join the Testing Cooperative just send me an email with your Dropbox email address, and I'll share the folder with you.

Now you guys can organize the operation however you want, but the gist is, the addons will be in there, and somebody from the co-op just has to let me know when one is considered A-OK, and I will package it up, mark it official, and post it. The procedures you have for deciding that and notifying me are in your hands, I'll trust you on it.

You'll also be able to upload things to the folder yourself, so you can use that to share notes, or upload fixed versions, or however you want to work it. Power to the people.

Hopefully there's enough interest in doing this that worlds can keep getting added officially, and we don't have to resort to just simple forum sharing!

There's a forum thread here where you can discuss this and work out the details.

P.S. if you want to do this and you don't already have a Dropbox account, don't just make one! Email me, and I can send you an email to sign up with. I get 500MB more space in my account for each person who does this, and thus, more room for addons! I'd appreciate the boost!

  Loonyland 2 Just got Collectiblier! 11:13 AM -- Sat October 6, 2012

Have you heard the news!? Probably not, because I'm just now typing it for the first time! Loonyland 2 now includes the entire Collector's Edition for free! I mean, you still have to buy Loonyland 2 itself, but it comes with all the bonuses. That's developer's commentary, a level editor, bonus arena battles, a second mini-adventure, Gallery Goals and concept art to unlock with them, and other little bonuses, all included in the original game!

Hey, it was easier than printing up new CDs. If you already own Loonyland 2, just grab the download from your My Downloads page, under My Stuff, to get the Collector's Edition.

Enjoy!

New Hamumu Game! But Beware! 08:22 PM -- Fri October 5, 2012

A new Hamumu game has just been released! It's Nikki Neigh And Tricky Trey, and to be honest I don't remember if I've publicly shared anything about it before, so excuse potential rehash.

So this is a game starring my niece and nephew (you can take a wild guess as to their names), and here's the BEWARE part... apparently this game is awful. Now, I say that while noting that I like the game. It's not my best one, but it's a dual-character puzzle platformer, which is fun enough, but it also has two very different combat systems for the two characters, one of which is some really cool kung fu stuff (you can throw robots at other robots!). That seems like a winner to me, especially when you factor in nifty bosses that require various tricks from the two characters, and lots of levels, and an item shop, and achievements, but according to the comments and votes it's received on the Armor Games site, people despise this game*.

They hate it passionately. Mia's Happy Day doesn't even come close to this. I am baffled, but I do honestly bow to the wisdom of the crowd. I'm clearly the one missing something here, not them. Unfortunately, they don't offer constructive criticism (luckily no requests for my self-immolation yet either), so I don't know what exactly is so bad. I hope it's just the kiddie nature of the game, and the pastelly colors (I do think it has a weird and off-putting visual aesthetic, or possibly lack of aesthetic), but clearly something about this is unacceptable to most people (actually, to all people, out of the current sample). It is not aimed at old folks, it's meant for kids, but then I don't know the ages of the Armor Games commenters, maybe 6-year-olds are hating on it too.

So I hope you like it, and I swear to you I really do like it myself. Let me know what you think, and feel free to not like it. You're in good company. I won't be updating the game, Armor paid for it as is, and it's delivered and done, but I do hope I someday understand exactly what triggered such an intense fury for future reference. And hey, if you do like it, or just not hate it, feel free to rate it up or make a nice comment on it. I wouldn't mind!

* That's not a legitimate place to break the paragraph, but it was just too long. Deal with it.

  Robot Rebellion! 05:40 PM -- Mon October 1, 2012

Click here to play the newest game by Hamumu, Robot Rebellion. It's kind of an RPG, kind of a dual stick shooter (in the sense that mouse aim plus keyboard movement equals dual stick), in space with all the shooting and exploding and whatnot.

As for Halloween festivities, I'm gonna watch a horror movie today (no idea which one, just gonna hit Netflix and see!), and that's about the extent of it. I want to do reviews, but we'll see how that pans out. Making games is priority zero, which is even higher than priority one.
